It's an optical illusion caused by light and shadow. The natural feature known as Cydonia Mensae doesn't actually resemble a face at all when viewed at higher resolution and fully illuminated.

Old photos from Viking showed what looked like a face on Mars, however pictures from the Mars Global Surveyor took higher quality pictures at a different time of the year when the lighting was better and it showed to be nothing more than a hill and some rocks.

The famous Face on Mars is really just a rocky outcropping, nothing artificial about it. The fact that it happened to look like a face in a few certain photographs was due to the way the light shone on it. It is not actually as tall relative to its width as the pictures make it out to be, and is not particularly face-like as seen from the surface.

It is a natural formation. There are rocks on Earth that look like a face, so why not on Mars too?

It is just a natural phenomenon. Scientists have moved a camera in different positions and no face appeared. I saw it on TV (don't remember what show) and could not see a face. It's a little like seeing things in cloud. Depends on the angle you are viewing. It is eerie though.

It could be real or fake but there are ways to look at it! It could be natural but there is no natural weather or water cycle there the are also supposed pyramids and another face. Its all about opinion until NASA can find a way to get down there.
