Somebody is trying to tell me it's dangerous or harmful to the microwave... unless you can convince me, I'm not buying it.

You are playing a game called “Deal or No Deal”, twenty-six cases are displayed at random with various amounts in each (from one cent to one million dollars). You select case number one as your case (meaning your case is no longer an option for elimination) You then randomly eliminate and all but two cases (Case two and your case). One case contains one million dollars and one contains one cent. Howie Mandel ask: “Would you like to switch to case number two?” Is it to your advantage to switch to case number two in this situation?

Even PhD’s in statistics have managed to solve this incorrectly because of a common misinterpretation with the Monty Hall Problem. The question is based solely upon this singular sequence of events and not all the possible sequence that may come about in the Deal or No Deal game and the question clearly states a singular situation in which you “randomly” eliminate all but one case and your own. Taking the bankers offer is not an option here.

As you can see from this photograph, part of the Victoria Crater being visited by the Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity is filled with sand.

I heard once that the stars we see (or at least some of them) are not active anymore but we still see them due to the rate at which light travels. If this is true (though I cant seem to finy anything online about it), how long on average does it take us on Earth to see a new star that has been "born"?

In the last week it seems it's always present... my finger or thumb "jerks" slightly every 0.5 to 4 seconds or so. It seems to vary in frequency depending on whether I'm at rest... or sometimes it seems random. Of course I'm going to see a doctor about it, but in the meantime, what are some things it could be? Possibly Parkinson's?
(I'm 28, and in pretty good health.)
Thanks.

My math teacher gave us a lovely home assignment to finish on our own. I'm absolutely stuck on a couple. If you could point me in the right direction on one, I could probably get the others.
Could you help me with this, please?

I did it and I got -9. The computer said it was -1. It would be -1 if the equation was 3x = -3 but I was wondering if i missed somthing. I am sure I am right though.

It's kind of moving spatial awareness - even if there were 1000 birds in flight moving very fast, they wouldn't crash into each other because of some sort of built-in system. Does anyone know the name for it? Thanks!

There are two companies that sell widgets. Both companies sell the widgets to the general public for the same price. In order to earn business, Company A offers a special 25% discount on each order. In response, Company B offers a 35% discount on every dollar the customer spends over $50. Both discounts are rounded to the nearest cent. If you place an order for $50 or less, it is less expensive to order from Company A. If you place a large enough order, it will be less expensive to order from Company B. At what price does it become less expensive to order from Company B?

I know the discount is exactly the same at $175.00. The discount formula for Company A is X * .25. The formula for Company B is X - 50 * .35. I don't know how to write the equation algebraically. I had something like x - .25x = .35(x-50) . I don't think that is right but I am lost as to where to go next. Any help with relevant work would be much appreciated!
