A certain automobile can decelerate at |a1| = 1.7 m/s2. Traveling at a constant v1 = 30 m/s, this car comes up behind a car traveling at a constant v2 = 5 m/s

How close to the slower car can the driver of the faster car come before applying his brakes and still avoid a collision?
D =______ m

Unfortunately, the driver of the faster car does not apply his brakes until he is just 30 m behind the slower car! Call the instant at which he applies the brakes t = 0.

At what time does the inevitable collision of the two cars occur?
t collision = ___s

Okay, if have a problem where I have to prove the equality of the following sets:

A intersection ( B union C ) = ( A intersection B ) union ( A intersection C )

If D is a subset of A and D is a subset of B, then D is a subset of ( A intersection B )

If A is a subset of D and B is a subset of D, then ( A union B ) is a subset of D

Thanks in advance! I'll continue to work on this problem for a while before checking back, so feel free to take your time, I'll check back in 1.30 hrs

reptile species exist( and which produced eggs) long before there being any scientific records of chickens? Where did the chicken magically appear from if it didn't evolve from some other species?

Just figured I'd put a different "twist" on this repeatedly asked, stupid question. Seems anyone who accepts evolution agrees the egg came first and those that deny evolution seem to agree that the chicken must have come first because the chicken needed to exist to lay the egg.

In the primate family, man is the one with the biggest brain and the largest sex organs.

I don't think evolution would give us alot of this stuff for no apparent reason. I don't believe in coincedences either.

Which came first?

Considering some of the major holes in it;

- the unexplained superluminal expansion of space early on
- the missing dark matter and dark energy
- the lack of explanation as to why the universe is accelerating apart

The big bang has some compelling evidence in it's favor no doubt, but science progresses by disproving things, not by confirming them. The successful prediction of CMBR was a test the big bang passed that allowed it to stay, not a finish line that proved it true. We can imagine other black body style theories that could result in the same CMBR. Red shift seemed to be anothe passed test, until we discovered acceleration. As a result, it is now a failed test. The big bang should have been seriously reconsidered the day that was discovered.

With these fundamental known major flaws, is it appropriate to downgrade the big bang from theory back to hypothesis? Is the widespread acceptance of a seriously flawed theory a raodblock to investigation?

A car traveling at a speed of vo = 57 m/s stops smoothly (that is, its deceleration is constant) over a distance of d = 110 m.

a) After the car has gone 1/3 of the stopping distance, what is its speed?

v1/3 =_____m/s
b) If the car had been going 10 m/s but had stopped in the same d = 110 m distance, what would its acceleration have been?

a(vo = 10m/s) =______ m/s2

The apparent absence of shadows where shadows were expected to be is raising new questions about the faint glow of microwave radiation once hailed as proof that the universe was created by a Big Bang.
