reptile species exist( and which produced eggs) long before there being any scientific records of chickens? Where did the chicken magically appear from if it didn't evolve from some other species?

Just figured I'd put a different "twist" on this repeatedly asked, stupid question. Seems anyone who accepts evolution agrees the egg came first and those that deny evolution seem to agree that the chicken must have come first because the chicken needed to exist to lay the egg.

Well, all 4 responses sort of partially answered the question and, if I combine them, they make one pretty good answer. Let's vote to see which 1 people think was the best response.

Well, I can't answer that question specifically, but i'll tell you what I do know. Birds are said to have evolved from prehistoric reptiles, most likely the raptor family, which may have even been sporting feathers long before the birds of today. This is why birds are somtimes referred to as reptiles.
So in short, I believe that chickens DID evolve from some other species. Sorry if I kinda dodged the real question :D

Our domestic breeds are descendants of the Jungle Fowl which are still found in Indo-China. They are related to other "game birds" such a pheasants.

I'm sure that doesn't actually answer your question, though.
