It's really frustrating to me that now there are only eight planets in the solar system. I just graduated from high school, and my little brother now has to "unlearn" the old way of memorizing the planets. What's "My Very Eager Mother Just Serving Us Now?"

You don't 'unlearn' things, you add to your base of knowledge.

Your brother will deal with it.

I think it's worse for those of us who remember the good ol' days when Pluto was a planet...

As for the mnemonic, how about:
My Very Evil Mother Just Slapped Us

Because "planet" has an official definition that does not include Pluto now. Pluto is not big enough to be called a planet. Before, people thought there was a specific dividing line between the traits of celestial bodies. They didn't figure that planets would start getting mixed up with asteroids when the one got smaller and the other got bigger and spherical. Geez. Chill, man. You're not the only person with the issue. Your brother could try using "My Very Educated Mother Just Served Us Noodles" instead of Nine Pizzas. o_O

You don't know that "My Very Eager Mother Just Serving Us Now" ??? Look at the fist letters of the words ... it's a support to memorize the right order the planets are in.

And Pluto became a dwarf planet, it was just reclassified, that's it. I do not understand how one can be frustrated by this.

And to the others: There are more than only 3 dwarf planets !!

The reason that Pluto was excluded is that it's just one Kuiper Belt Object (KBO) of many that we've now seen. Either there are eight planets or there are more (probably a lot more) than nine. Nine is not logical no matter what. It's not fair to favor Pluto over other KBOs, some of which are probably larger. And it's better to treat KBOs like asteroids, which are also not considered planets. That way we have eight well defined planets, thousands of asteroids, and thousands of KBOs, instead of trying to pick some special asteroids and some special KBOs out and call them planets. What could make them special, that people would not argue endlessly about?

There are 11 planets now not 8. There are 8 major planets and 3 "dwarf planets"
