It is a pity that bristlecone pines only go back 5-6000 years (as if that isn't long enough for a tree to live). That age in itself would be grist for the creationists mill, since they can argue that there are no trees older than that because the Earth wasn't created.

So, what about ice cores from Antarctica? One cannot dispute the annual layers in them, surely. How far do they go back - long enough to dispel 6000 years as the age of Earth?

I had this question about calulating how long it will a vertical leap with a specified height is going to take and what is the initial velocity. Only the final height and gravity (-9.8) is given. But I can't solve it because there are two variables missing -- the time and initial velocity. Is it possible to solve this problem and how.

The earths temperature has been steadly rising over the last 15k yrs, long before the industrial revolution. Also, remember that there is scientific evidence to show that the earth has went through several ice ages with 60 k year cycles. If you look at even fossil evidence you'll see that during the permion era florida and most of texas was underwater, as well as many other places around the world. The earth goes through its own seasonal cycle on a scale of thousands of yrs just as it does on a yearly rate.

today was my first day of chem class (im a junior in HS) and we have an assignment where we have to describe something we did over the summer that involves chemistry and what chemistry had to do with it. ive been thinking about it for quite a while and my mind is blank. the kid behind me was going to use building a fire which is a good one, but now i cant use that. im not asking for anyone to do my homework i just need a few ideas to get me moving. any details would help alot. if you have a source of went to school for chem please mention that, i would kind of like a reliable source. thanks in advance!
