Why the air surrounding the Earth does not escape into the Space since Space is nearly a vacuum? Is it because of Earth's gravitational pull than the pressure of the air to esacpe into the Space? If it is so, if you hold a vacuum bottle with the opening facing downwards, why air still rushes upwards into the bottle?

Why do we need to fly 24 hours even against Earth's rotation from one side of the Earth to the other side when Earth itself takes only 12 hours to make half a rotation. Is the plane actually flying, or decelerating form its orginal rotation speed as the Earth or is it hovering? If you were to hover in a helicopter for 12 hours, and allow Earth to spin below you, will you thus reach your destination half the world away in 12 hours and faster than a plane?

My old maths teacher went through a convouled set of equations that "proved" that 1 equals 0. I can't remeber how he did it though.
