There are different types of inductors like air, iron, & ferrite core. And factors affecting inductance are turns, material, cross section of the coil.

Application of RL circuit:

i too need the answer for the application of rl ckts. they store energy in the form of magnetic field. whenever current flows through the coil, lines of magnetic flux are generatedaround it . this magnetic flux opposes changes in the current due to induced emf.that component is inductors

well what i know about rl circuits is very little which is why i'm here. i barely know anything about circuits in general and was hoping for some help. here's what i know about rl circuits. RL circuit consists of a resistor and inductor, connected either in series or parallel, driven by a voltage source. but i can seem to find examples of applications or what they are used for besides spark plugs. any help would be greatly appreciated or a nudge in the right direction.

As said above: air core, metal core, ferrite core.
For the same number of turns, the core changes the value of the inductor.
If you know your AC laws, you would know that inductor current is 90 deg. BEHIND inductor voltage, and capacitors the opposite.
So inductors can be used to modify the PHASE of a current.
And in modifying the phase, you can do many things, but most RL(C) circuits are used to filter "things", in low pass, band pass or hi-pass filters.
Remember also that the impedance (resistance) of an inductor is Z = omega L (omega = 2 * PI * freq), so the higher the frequency, the higher the "resistance" of the coil.

Air cored inductor
Iron cored inductor
ferrite cored inductor
RL circuits used for all application where 90 phase laging is required
