I'm trying to calibrate a K-type thermocouple, but I need something with a reference temperature that I can trust to within .1 C. Is ice water trustworthy?

We found this bug outside our house. It is about an inch long. Looks like it has 6 legs and 4 antenna...however, 2 of the antenna could be legs...but it doens't look like he/she walks on them. It also appears to have NO eyes. It's mouth looks like 4-prong beak. Two on the top, two on the bottom. It isn't a red as it looks in the pictures on the following web site...but is more brownish-tan with a darker brown "butt". It would be nice to know what this is...since it's sooo big and strange looking. Any help would be appreciated.

Pictures can be seen at: http://vyquinn.tripod.com/insect

I’m fairly familiar with the standard twin paradox, but I’ve never seen the paradox adequately resolved for a closed universe. Closed in the sense that if you travel in a fixed direction long enough, you’ll end up where you started; like if space were the surface of a hyper-sphere.

Anyone know how to resolve it? What would happen if two twins set out in opposite directions and (assuming the universe is closed) they ran into each other again? Calculations made by either of them would yield that the other should be older and they could ask each other who was the younger via radio transmissions without necessarily stopping.

I’ve seen one person resolve it (in “American Mathematical Monthly”) by saying that there IS a preferred reference frame in the universe, but that kind of flies in the face of one of the basic postulates of Relativity.

(Just FYI this stumped my physics professor, but he specializes in Particle Physics not Cosmology)

I'm trying to figure out my average for my class...please help!! I'd also appreciate if you could tell me how you did instead of just the answer, so I know if I'm ever in this situation again.

40% of my grade= 101
30% of my grade= 94
15% of my grade= 80

I have one more paper due, it's 15% of my grade as well....what's the lowest I can get on it and still get an A?

Thanks so much for your help!!!

I was in our garage and saw this bug or beetle on the floor- it was large, probably an inch long and half an inch wide, and built like a tenk- greenish-brown and seemed very lethargic

I need to be able to fully saturate two 2N2222 transistors with a +5v 25mA source. Is this enough? Or could recommend another way around this? If you want a schematic contact me.

hi,
so, i know that carboxylic acids don't usually undergo decarboxylation.
now, when beta-keto ester is heated, CO2 is lost. can anyone tell me why this occurs? and what's its importance in organic synthesis... other than being a method for producing methyl ketones.
thank you
