As far as I understand, points on a circle have the same distance to one point. Further, points on an ellipse have the same distance to the sum of two points (foci) within it. Is there an analogous structure for the sum of three or more points? Or any other higher order structure?

I received an email from a friend that basically said that mars rotation around the sun would bring the red planet close enough to the earth to be viewable in the month of august.....Supposedly this is an event that only happens roughly every 60,000 years ...does anyone know whether is any truth to this or if its just the result of somegeeks over reacting imagination? If its true its something i personally would like to see.....let me know!!!

I'm not talking about parallel universe here, I mean what lies beyond the beyond? I know this is pure speculation, but I haven't heard of a logical theory out there. I know this is also one of those questions that is probably unanswerable, but why can't our brains wrap around infinity..........or nothingness?

In not too long, I'll have two undergrad degrees, one in graphic design and one in math. So far, I've been thinking of following the math and going into some engineering field. But is there a job that would pay enough to keep me off the streets that would combine the graphic design and math? I dearly love both of my directions of study and would be equally complimented if someone called me a math geek or computer nerd (call me both and we should find a time to go out for coffee.) Yet in all my searching, I haven't really come across anything that would fit. And in terms of the graphic design, I am not looking for a mindless job of creating the sort of graphics an amateur with a guide to Photoshop or Illustrator could do in a half hour. Just because I like math doesn't mean I don't like being creative. I use both sides of my brain, and I'd love it if I could find a job that would let me do just that. I'd really appreciate it if you'd share any thoughts you had on the matter.

The following material requires a very intellectual and philosophical mind to digest and understand, but by all means read and ponder.

Brains in a Vat: http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/brain-vat/
Or http://www.butte.edu/~machuga/God%20of%20all%20Grace/Chapter%204.html

It basically suggests and refutes that we (you, or anyone) are just brains in a vat connected to a super-computer because we are able to ask the question are we just brains in a vat.

Unfortunately the theory is flawed because it assumes we are dealing with human brains in a vat, but that may not be the case.

Is it not possible that everything we think, feel, believe, sense, taste, smell, you name it is in fact virtual, and everything science or religion puts forward is just virtual. Is it not possible that all the troubles in the world are just virtual. Is it not possible that the universe is just virtual, and that the intelligence in a vat will never know the answers to anything in our world or universe.

What I mean is, let's say you are flipping a coin. Is it any more likely to get tails if you have flipped 1,000,000,000,000,000,000^100,000! (lol, I like that number) heads in a row, than if it was your first flip?

I mean, it is less likely that you will get the first scenario than the second, but for the single flip that I am referring to, is it's likelyhood effected at all?

Please only answer if you have a reason behind your answer. Also, please think about your reason before you answer.
