I got an email from a family member stating that for this entire month that we can see the planet Mars in the night sky, On August 27 th, 2006 Mars will be at it's closes point, from what this e-mail says and I am wondering can anyone tell me where would be a really nice place to go and look for it?
I mean my family & I live in ILL near Chicago IL, and I am trying to find a place where we can go and see the planet that is like open and clear, we have never actually went star gazing before and since this is such an historial moment I don't want us to miss this, they say the next time that these two planets come this close to each other again will be like in 67,000,000 years. Any help that is offered here is very much appericated, I want my family to share this moment together, to share with future genarations to come.

Has anyone else heard about this, About Mars being so close to the earth, that you can see it with an naked eye, at certain times in the evening all this month?

If we had the technology to drill a 20 foot around hole through the earth and it was unobstructed all the way through to the other side. What would happen to a 2 ton object when it was dropped in? Would it go fast enough to break the gravity that may slow it before it hit the other side and shoot out the other side?

I don't mean to sound like a religion basher but I don't get it. Why do people have more faith in religion than in scientific explanations such as the Big Bang? I can't honestly believe that we came from a man in the sky. I have to go by the facts, and most of the facts give different explanations for our existence…. and most of these explanations are based off of years and years of scientific research. I have more faith in the Big Bang and the Big Crunch than I do in the man in the sky.

Long ago dinosaurs ruled the Earth. It was a time when reptiles were king.

Now it's obviously humans who are the domniant species on the planet. But nothing lasts forever. Someday we will be gone.

When we go, what species will step up and become the rulers of this planet?

I think it'll be a battle between insects and microbes (viruses, probably).
