The only difference between different things are: They're not the same!

There are two types of differences. One is between things of same nature and another is between things of different nature. Eg. What is the difference between the Suchin Tendulkar and Anil Kumble. They are cricket players and they are of same nature. But we can differentiate them Tendulkar as batsman and Kumble as bowler. Take another case. What is the difference between the Vishwanathan Anand and Suchin Tendulkar. Now we are comparing the things or persons of different nature. The answer is "Vishwanathan is good at Chess and Tendulkar is good at Cricket". Thus there are different types of differences.
While comparing in the first case we have to use the word, "With" and in the second case, we have to use the word "to". "Compared with" and "Compared to".

Some are red
Some are black
I have dark brown hair
Daughters have light brown hair
ETC.

If that doesn't help, if everything wasn't different, we would all want the same things. I for one, like my stuff to LOOK like MY stuff, not everyone eleses.

What kind of THINGS are you talking about? This could take years to answer right.

Depends on from whose point of view. I could list many differences between, say, a lamppost and a tree, but a dog might see them as offering identical opportunities. And a giraffe might see nothing more than that one of them seems to have no leaves to eat.

each and every different thing has an equal yet opposite characteristic.

hence the similarity of different things.

there is a common denominator of the confusing yet understandable contradictions of unusual yet familiar parallel intersections of the different.

What do you mean by "different things"? If you mean tangible and intangible substances, you'd better ask it to philosophers. But if you mean tangible substances only, the answer lays on the physical & chemical structure of the substance (atoms, mollecules, ions, etc.)
