Adolescent - January 2007

We have grounded our 15 year old son for stealing my VERY valuable coin collection. One coin was worth at least $1100.00. He stole in excess of $20,000 worth of coins. We were unable to get most of them back. We grounded him from EVERYTHING. As well as made him pay back some of the money. (He'll never be able to pay back the full value) During the grounding though we found out he was sneaking around and doing things he was NOT allowed to do. When caught he lied even after he was busted and there was no way out he tried to maintain the lie. He has been grounded for about 6 weeks now and continues to sneak around. His grades are TERRIBLE, we had him drug tested and it was negative. We control where he goes and with whom. (Which is nowhere unless with us) We are at our witts end.... Any brilliant ideas?

My 15 yr old son is now having his first love. I see him all depressed and I feel so bad for him. The girl is very quick to accuse my son of cheating, and yelling at him on the phone. I know hes not cheating, he never goes anywhere with out her. They will break up and get back together 2 or 3 times a week. Should I stick my nose in or let them continue to act like idiots. So far I have not said anything to either one, but I did tell her to stop smothering my son. Please not sarcastic remarks.

I have two teenage kids, a son 16 and a daughter 17. Their mother dies 8 years ago and ever since then they get worse and worse. My son is dating a 19 year old girl who i do not approve of. Hes talking about adopting her 1 year old son when he turns 18 and is talking about having a baby with her. Hes also been skipping school and the other day I found empty bottles of alcohol in his room.

But he is nothing compared to my daughter. She goes out with a different guy every night. I found homemade pornography in her room where she was engaging in sexual intercourse with 2 other people. I found heroin in her closet. Shes failing all her classes and talking about dropping out of school. Ive found empty pregnancy test boxes in her room and much much more.

Ive tried everything grounding them, taking things away from them, sending them to their grandparents for weeks at a time, and everything i can think of.

What more can I do ?

my stepdad has lived in tha same house as me my mom n my sister since i was 11 n has been married ta my mom since i was 13, im 19 now. tha thing is, hes never once since iv known him told me that he luvs me... or my sister for that matter. i dont no y but it really bothers me. it seems like hes always nit picking er saying olny things that i do wrong-- even if he told me ta do it. i actually cant even remember tha last time he said i did a good job at something. im glad he makes my mom happy n all but i feel like i get tha sh.itty end a tha stick so ta speak. iv tried talking ta both him n my mom but before i can really even say nething we get in a fight over something else. am i wrong for being bothered by this?

my mom is like treating me like a baby. just beacuse i didn't go to sleep at 11 i have to go to bed at 8 tonite. yesterday i was supposed to but i didn't do it so she says i have to do it again tonite. i think its so stupid im planning on staying up later like yesterday. can't she see that this stupid punishment isn't working at all cause i don't really give, cause i have a ipod video, tv, comp, ps2, cable, and a fone all in my room. she said if i keep staying up later than 8 i will keep going to bed at 8 which i don't really care about since i have everything in my room to keep me entertained. do u think i should follow her rules tonite, or should i just keep breaking them. o and my mom just started disciplening like a week ago i don't think its working out for her. this is the first time for her to try to be discilpleneing me also. and im 13 almost 14 if that matters any. and she got really pissed last nite cause she thinks im all good and stuff but im really not. she was so confused

She is in the 90%ile, so it's not my own view of "average", please let me say to begin with. I don't keep unhealthy snacks in the house, and since having lost nearly 50lbs. of my own in the last couple years I only cook low fat/cal healthy meals for my family. I also exercise at least 4x per week and make it a point to let her know what I am doing to try to set an example of pursuing a healthy lifestyle. Her biggest problems that I recognize are 1) genetics; her dad is overweight himself, as is both sides of our families, 2) lack of physical activity on her part and 3) lack of support of her dad's part (we are divorced). I've charted her height/weight percentages & BMI and shown this to him to put it in black & white that she has a problem & we need to work together on this. But he continues to bring her to fast food places, buy her whatever junk food in the store she wants, and doesn't encourage her to go out to play when she is with him. How do I get him on board with my efforts?

have the ability to take them with me when they are out of school, which I have and do alot. I have spoiled them rotten, and it shows at times like tonight. I am the driver almost every Fri and Sat either to the mall or pickup from the mall and take friends home or ball games or to boyfriends (oldest is who I am speaking of now) and sometimes both nights both ways. I rarely do much alone or with other adults. Alot of the times when I want to do something I wont hear any complaints but tonight, I got the guilt trip for even suggesting that I was going to a friends for a bit. Now last night I picked up my 15 from the mall, took her boyfriend home and she had a friend spend the night here. Today I took her to her boyfriends work to see him on a 30 break (as I do alot). And tomorrow they will see each other too (they do not go to same school) so that means I will be doing at least one of the ways driving tomorrow. my question finally and I am sorry, but why do I fell so guilty?

my sis is turning 16 and is having her paryt at 6 flags, She will take like 20 of her closest friends and her b'f to 6 flags in a limo. Then they reach 6 flags and go on all the rides and eat. Then they leave with the limo and reach this place and have a nice place to party for a while and eat dinner and then they cut cake ad blah blag. I know this sounds unusual but she is unusual. What do you think of it. Everything will be paid for by my parents.

A new girl I know (she's in grade seven) had been suspended recently from her elementary school and has been forced to attend another one. Her new bus stop is at the end of my driveway (where my child's stop is too). She was suspended for beating up kids either her age or younger. She back talks to people in authority, she says very rude things to my son which resulted in him running to me and crying. I tried to speak with this girl's parents, but they never responded. I tried phoning the school, but that didn't work out so well. I am starting to wonder why she's so upset. Do you think it is her parents or just her age? And how would you deal with this? (Rude answers will be ignored).
