Pregnancy & Parenting - 18 February 2007

I am 39 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if anyone knew of any ways to speed the labor process. Since I have been pregnant my baby has caused my right kidney to swell and it is painful. Now I have been waiting to have my baby so I can start to heal but this is my first pregnancy and it is taking forever for me to dilate. I am only 1 centimeter and I am almost 100% effaced. I may even be 100% effaced I will find out tomorrow. So any way if any one knows of anything they did when they were pregnant or heard to help I would greatly appreciate it. Only positive answers please. Thanks.

She has been sleeping through the night for the past 3 weeks, waking up once or maybe twice, but only needing her dummy to settle her back to sleep straight away. About a week ago she started to wake more frequently at night, after giving her the dummy it took her longer to settle back to sleep than normal, then 3 nights ago, she refused to settle at all until we fed her. We gave her 60ml of milk, thinking that this would be enough to settle her, as before she dropped the night feed altogether, she was taking a maximum of 50ml. When she finished this bottle, she became very upset and did not settle at all, it took another 2 60ml bottles before she settled back to sleep. So all in all she took 180ml of milk, which is normal for a full feed through the day. Now she is drinking so much at night that she does not finish a feed through the day. I dont know how to get her back to the way she was, I cant not feed her when she is hungary, and cant force her to eat when she doesnt want it!

Need comments about the things you new dads would have liked if you knew what it was like in hospital with your partner in labour? IE ..... a mother to be has her labour bag... but what about dad to be?

My last period was on the 24th of jan, I didnt start my next packet of pills as going onto injection and havent had another period since. Had only been taking pills for one month before, getting worried as im sure i should of had a period as i stopped taking the pill. My regular dates are the 3rd of every month, could i miss one and go through to the 3rd of march.

I am 26 years old, married and been actively trying to conceive for nearly a year now i have been taking folic acid, eating healthily and exercising.....my last period was on the 26th January my cycle is regular and is roughly 28days, i must of ovulated on the 9th Feb, yesterday the 17th feb my husband and i were having sex and there was a little bit of blood pink/brown colour havent seen it since then. I am really concerned as i know its 9days after ovulation just wondering if it could be implantation or early miscarriage i am inexperienced has anybody else experienced this before???

I have a 5 1/2 month old baby girl. I don't cosleep every night, but I do tend to fall asleep every now and then while nursing. It's usally the last half of the night. She goes to bed around 7:00/7:30 and wakes back up somewhere around 12:00 to 2:30am. She still sleeps in her bassinet next to my bed. I do notice sometimes when I do nurse her and try putting her in the bassinet she wakes up and cries. I rock the bassinet, sing, and she'll fall back to sleep. (Sometimes she'll just cry). I know them sleeping alone is a transition itself when you tend to cosleep. Do you think it's to early to start putting her in the crib? How old was your baby when you did this? Last, but not least any suggestions on how to go about doing it?

Just look at the Jeremy Kyle show every day ... some halfwitted girl shuffles out on the stage complaining about her boyfriend, and says she "fell pregnant" and it wasn't planned.
Now this baffles me - sex education is in all the schools, condoms and contraception are easily and freely available and, if this fails, there is abortion on demand (a contentious issue but it's still there if that's your choice).
So why do so we have one of the highest single-parent birth rates in Europe? Is it because of a lack of education and ambition in young girls, or is it the fact that being a single mother is now a career choice for many girls providing them with a home and a wage?
What's your views on this?

I have been using the time-out method with my son since he was18months old. He is now two and a half and he still doesn't seem to be getting it. I'm at a loss. I have an 8 week old and have been averaging about 3-4 hours of sleep at night (not all at once) and have been doing okay until a couple days I woke up feeling like I had taken a bunch of Bendrayll, just really out of it, like I am in a fog and not all here. Has anyone ever felt this way? I know everyone says sleep when the baby is sleeping, but I have a toddler to take care of as well.
