I am 39 weeks pregnant and I was wondering if anyone knew of any ways to speed the labor process. Since I have been pregnant my baby has caused my right kidney to swell and it is painful. Now I have been waiting to have my baby so I can start to heal but this is my first pregnancy and it is taking forever for me to dilate. I am only 1 centimeter and I am almost 100% effaced. I may even be 100% effaced I will find out tomorrow. So any way if any one knows of anything they did when they were pregnant or heard to help I would greatly appreciate it. Only positive answers please. Thanks.

My sister-in-law said she ate pizza and made love and went in to labor that night with all three of her children.

For all sakes of your discomfort, your doctors apparently thought it was fine and did not want to induce you earlier. They must be thinking that there is nothing wrong with you or the baby. So as far a long as you are I would have to say you are going to have to wait for mother nature or talk to your doctor about induction.
After 32 weeks you can deliver a good heathly baby...so at 39 wks you are pretty much there anyway. Ask them to help you because you are in such discomfort. But let me just say being induced is NOT fun...it is quiet painful, but the labor goes by somewhat faster if you listen to your doctors and follow what they say.
Hope this helped

Doctors can induce labour by administering a drug to speed up the process. Be aware that speeding up the birth process can also have negative effects for both mother and child. Try a hot bath to relax you. Other wise get the injection to speed it up. Good luck my friend. 39 weeks should not be a problem.

Walk and have sex...that did it for me. But I was walking my entire pregnancy so it wasn't anything new for me. I also moved into a new house 2 weeks before I delivered and so I neurotically vacuumed the house everyday. I think staying active really helped...and I had a great delivery and recovery. I've heard the Castor oil thing works too, but I wasn't that desperate to get her out. Talk to your doctor about inducing at your next appointment.

nipple stimulation :) most doctors frown on nipple stimulation in the last trimester because it can throw you in labor but hey you are past that point and could safely use it :) good luck and congratulations!
