Ok. I know there are other cadidates that I am not hearing of, but this is the one I am concerned about. Why is it that he is NOT the lead name out there to give the Repblicans a chance in this race. So many people are so sick of Bush, and the Republicans you are hearing about are not great replacements. Why isn't this guy out there more?

The Confederate States of America lasted from 1861 to 1865. That short time period hardly represents the South. What that time period does represent is succession from the Union, insistence on the enslavement of Africans and African-Americans, and war. In fact, in represents a period of unpatriotism to the United States of America. Why would you want to be associated with that? What does that say about the Southern heritage you claim. Since African-Americans made up a large part of the South, and they don't claim that same heritage, what is it that white Southerners are celebrating on their cars, shirts, hats, and belt buckles?

Few will dispute that our country has been a very great and successful country for a long time. We outproduced the world, people of great education, skill and intellect from rest of the world wanted to come here and be americans, we stood for justice and individual liberties, and we have had the highest standard of living. But in recent years (say the last 25 or so) there seems to have been a growing movement to change the fabric of this country and rearrange the foundation of what's living in the USA means. My question is .....if we have been the greatest country for over 200 years, why do some americans want to change us some much? and who are they?

Couple of problems with that theory:

1. Even if everything completely turned around in Iraq, the war will not be over by election time.
2. The war was based on lies and half-truths, and you cannot get back the lives of 3800+ people who died needlessly.

"Brian Latell of the CIA is convinced that even if Fidel Castro does die nothing major will happen in Cuba. He says that there have been no reports of riots nor has there been any credible challenge to succession. The US government is not taking any chances with this situation. The Miami based US Southern Command on training the Coast Guard and Homeland Security just in case there is a mass migration from Cuba to the US. The US is not expecting a mass migration but they do want to be ready just in case."

The question remains that if Fidel Castro does die then will the US try to make Cuba a democracy?

Many on YA talk about the insurgents as "freedom fighters."

How are the insurgents freedom fighters when?:

-they are trucked into iraq from other countries
-they are armed by iran or other countries
-are not iraqi citizens
-target innocent civilians
-kidnap and behead people on camera
-destroy the infrastructure of iraq so the civilians suffer
-threaten and kill people who want to vote "democratically"

How long can we have the american democrats and liberals stand up for these terrorists?

WASHINGTON - The firestorm over the Sept. 16 shooting of more than a dozen unarmed Iraqis by members of Blackwater USA, a private security firm, has sparked renewed calls for the US military to release its own records related to the killing of Iraqi civilians at checkpoints or near convoys.
Many hundreds of Iraqi civilians have been killed or injured by US forces for getting too close to checkpoints or convoys over the past four years, according to US military documents and officials.

Private security contractors such as Blackwater and US soldiers are authorized to fire at vehicles that get too close to convoys or checkpoints, after giving a series of warnings known as "escalation of force."

US military officials say they have launched a successful effort to reduce the number of such shootings by training soldiers to give more visible warnings, but the Pentagon so far has declined to release data to back up the assertion."

the cost of one vs. the other is so lopsided, yet all i hear is how expensive health care provided by the government is. oh, yeah, and it is socialism. isn't the military intervention in iraq, supported by less than a majority, a socialistic function as well? i don't think you can have it both ways. either government provides medical care AND military care, or they provide nothing. if it is about money, then stop the war.
