Few will dispute that our country has been a very great and successful country for a long time. We outproduced the world, people of great education, skill and intellect from rest of the world wanted to come here and be americans, we stood for justice and individual liberties, and we have had the highest standard of living. But in recent years (say the last 25 or so) there seems to have been a growing movement to change the fabric of this country and rearrange the foundation of what's living in the USA means. My question is .....if we have been the greatest country for over 200 years, why do some americans want to change us some much? and who are they?

Conservatives want to legislate morality to force people to change to their beliefs. Liberals want to live and let live.

You decide.

Exactly what a lot of people would like to know. We have run into the selfish ME generation. They feel that people who work hard getting an education to succeed should pay the high price in taxes to care for the low income people who did not have their initiatives.
We all have opportunities in this country. Look at people like Clarence Thomas as an example who came up from nothing to be where he is today.
We have already gone through periods in history that should have taught us lessons in economics. Economists even say elevating taxes does not do good for anyone, and in the end we all pay the price. Lower taxes stimulate the economy and despite the Iraqi war, Katrina , and 9/11 our deficit is shrinking! This is all due to tax cuts that increase discretionary spending to create more and even better jobs.
There are some who would deprive us of our individual freedoms. Certainly we do need some changes with growth and maturity change is inevitable. And yes, we do have an obligation to those Americans who are truly in need; the elderly, the disabled, and disadvantaged children.
We must also be aware of those who will try to get something for nothing when they are quite capable of earning a living. The living they chose.

i will by no potential be a liberal lower back. The liberals are the biggest area of the situation with dropping our freedoms. The conservatives have helped, quite, however the liberals are the worst for giving freedom away. I heavily doubt that maximum conservatives are complacent. and that i be attentive to for a actuality that they do no longer help each and all the supply away classes that scouse borrow from each and every citizen at the same time as helping people who won't make any attempt for themselves. Your remark approximately decrease priced wellbeing care is laughable. it quite is the biggest power grab because this usa began. you will lose greater rights to that than have been taken away in all the different classes blended. As for the entire physique scans, how does holding us from bombers eliminate our rights? this could be a thoroughly irrational remark. Liberals are misnamed. you're able to be attentive to that. The term modern became into used for an prolonged time too, till some shiny youngster found out this is the comparable term used interior the former soviet union to describe their philosophy. as a count of actuality, the U.S. and right this moment's liberals have plenty in uncomplicated. i could quite no longer circulate down that direction and notice the U. S. finally end up like the U.S..

What has made this country great is that we (Americans) boldly go where no other country has gone before. America was founded on a new idea, a new ideology, one that had never been tried before. The USA was an experiment. It was and still is a work in progress. We have and will continue to follow new roads toward a culture of self rule.
We must always change, as there is no mold for our type of government and culture.

Actually, the changes taking place in America have been going on longer than 25 years. They really go back over 50, to the early civil rights movement, and culminated in the 70s. The America of the last 25 years or so is the America wrought by those changes.

Some want to continue changing America, and others want to change it /back/. Few, I think, are content with the way it is now.

I will help you answer your question this way.

Who is always talking about major changes to what we do? Who is always talking about constitutional changes? Who is willing to ignore longstanding traditions of our country pertaining to things that we don't do or things that are not acceptable? As to the last point, I am sure both libs and cons are guilty of some of that, but who is by far the most guilty of saying "we don't like the way this is beind done, this is the new way we want it done"?

By definition, liberals want change and conservatives want to keep the norm. But it should be pointed out that our country has been changing for those 200 years. I would argue that the reasons the US has remained such a great country is the progression, and not from staying the same.

Liberals (marxists) - I'd say this country started going downhill in the 60's. The communists will not allow Western Civilization to continue. They are everywhere and are very powerful.

I think the liberals are leaning towards socialism so they can partake of what the wealthy have worked for.
