"Religious-left groups to fast for end to Iraq conflict
Participants include CAIR, an unindicted co-conspirator in Texas Hamas case"

"Left-wing mainline Protestants are joining Muslims in a political fast aimed at getting the United States to 'end the war' in Iraq, an objective that no U.S. action could quickly accomplish."

Members saying they represented Muslim, Jewish, Roman Catholic, Unitarian and Baptist "traditions" were on hand. They used the ram's horn, or Jewish shofar, to sound a "wake up" call to the nation. They also placed ashes on their foreheads as a sign of repentance, and a bell was tolled to announce the fast, from dawn to sunset on Oct. 8. Plans are for a Muslim "iftar" meal that evening.

I dont think many conservatives and those that call themselves liberal even know what the definition of liberal is. To many its a curse word. I think THESE people we call Liberals are not Liberal at all. They are something different. They believe in unfettered abortion, THIS IS NOT a liberal attribute. They want gun control. This is also NOT a liberal attribute. They want big government and tax hikes. This is definately NOT a liberal attribute. So what gives?

It seems to me that the biggest thorn in a conservative's side is the thought of paying taxes...period. If all the services that the government provides were privatized, would you be willing to pay the price? Government is expensive, this is true, but they do not set out to make a 'profit' such as private business does. How long would it take before you could not afford the services that we too often take for granted?

I was prompted to ask this, because another poster asked if low-income parents should have their children taken away from them. I'm assuming here that he was referring to parents who are welfare recipients. Don't get me wrong. I think it's a pity that there are some people who have children they can't afford and who use welfare as a lifestyle instead of as temporary assistance. However, what are we supposed to do here? Even if all of these children were taken away from their parents, the burden would still fall on the taxpayers, because the children would end up going to the state.

have not served in the military, and Republicans are the Party of "family values" but most of the sex scandals and divorces involve them, and they advocate fiscal responsibility, but are the biggest spenders, promote the biggest growth in the Federal gov't in decades, and have contributed to the national debt to the greatest extent.....Reagan, Bush and Bush have presided over the largest increases in the debt....accounting for a rise from 22% of GDP to 72% of GDP?

First off, the program is still funded. Bush vetoed the EXPANSION of the bill.

Second, consider some shortfalls of the bill:
- It is funded by tobacco taxes. This tax was sold as way to reduce smoking, but how much sense does it make to pay for a GROWING entitlement with SHRINKING revenue base?
- Congress refused to write in a provision that states must cover ~80% of children before they could begin to cover adults. I thought this was about "the children"
- In some states, families would be covered that make up $83,000 a year. Most states would cover families making up to ~$60,000 a year, or three times the poverty rate. Why should they take resources away from me and my family to pay for the children of people making more money than me?

So, when in ignorance you claim "Bush vetoed poor childrens healthcare", what you are really saying is Bush vetoed an expansion to an existing program that would have covered 23 year old Manuel, whose family income is more than $65k a year!

Here's another hint: None of the jihadists are Methodists. Or Hindus, Unitarians, Catholics, or Buddhists. And yet, there are plenty of Methodists, Hindus, Unitarians, Catholics, Buddhists, and others who are either bored, feeling stuck in a rut in life...

What say you?
