The topic of poverty and welfare and redistribution of wealth is often a topic of conversation on YA. But a new study shows that America's poor are not so bad off and many of their problems are of their own doing. For example:

There are two main reasons that American children are poor: Their parents don't work much, and fathers are absent from the home.

In good economic times or bad, the typical poor family with children is supported by only 800 hours of work during a year: That amounts to 16 hours of work per week. If work in each family were raised to 2,000 hours per year—the equivalent of one adult working 40 hours per week throughout the year— nearly 75 percent of poor children would be lifted out of official poverty.

Father absence is another major cause of child poverty. Nearly two-thirds of poor children reside in single-parent homes; each year, an additional 1.5 million children are born out of wedlock.

He can declare this "emergency" in order to assume near dictatorial powers. (US under U.N. Law in health emergency).

May 2007 - Bush signs National Security Presidential directive 51 (and) Homeland Security Presidential directive 20. (giving himself more powers)

Aug 2007 - One week following the Montebello Summit....
SPP homepage outlines the North American Plan for Avian and Pandemic Flu - which features the agreement "newly reached" by "TRILATERAL bureaucratic working groups".

Co-Incidence?? I think NOT!! What do you think?

In a speech today he said, talking about New Orleans, "Today it is better than it was yesterday, tommorrow, it will be better than it is today" A person with such unbelievable wisdom is wasting his time as president, He should be reading stories to young children, oh, wait, he does.

And it's gradually getting worse there too? I get the impression, that many people think, that the two wars are actually one and the same.

Yahoo news story says that certain sections of the Great Wall of China are crumbling . Specifically it's only the sections that were made of 'muck' , not bricks .

Bricks. . . . . .Hmmmmm

How about this . China should allow the needy of their country to extract as many bricks as necessary to build themselves sturdy homes ?? Hmmmm ?. . Thousands of miles of bricks doin nothin .. . . well nothing but supressing their people .

Or how bout a new Chinese Game Show . . . . 'Chinese Gladiators' . They could have ropes dangling down the wall and allow citizens Xing and Xang to have a 10 second headstart and attempt to climb to their freedom while Chinese Gladiators tried to pull on their feet and legs and pull them down .

I think Yahoo likes the idea because the Yahoo suggested category for this question was 'Decorating and Remodeling' !!

If President Bush held a press conference in which he said. "I lied about why we went to Iraq" How many republicans will still support the war and the President? I am guessing 100%

Please don't say "well the dems supported the war as well, and bla bla bla"….They supported the war based on lies from the President, once they realized the mistake they where/are big enough to admit it.

Also I dare you to answer with out bringing up a Clinton. Please just answer the question at hand.

Personally, I think this speaks volumes about the state of our National Security, even if it was done for fun.

I as a former prankster, must bow to the pranking geniuses that pulled this off. I salute them as they arrive in Guantanemo.

for protecting us from terrorists? Millions of Americans face poverty every day, while a U.S. citizen has more of a chance of being struck by lightning than being attacked by a terrorist. If U.S. citizens are expected to see to their own financial security, why shouldn't they also be expected to see to their own physical security from terrorists? What is meant by "representative government"? Who does the federal government represent? Should we encourage poor, labor and middle class people to not waste their time voting?

America, make DAMN sure that you boot this brain dead test monkey out of the white house next year. (and by that I mean don't let him do something that would "force" him to declare a national emergency and suspend elections. )

Does anybody really believe that the other half of the War Party will be any better than the half which is currently in power? The War Party has been in power constantly since 1896 and with the exception of the 1920s and part of the 1970s (when public opinion made it impossible to continue warmongering), the War Party has been attacking countries left-and-right ever since. Just switching which branch of the War Party is in power will not change anything. The only way to end the policy of warmongering is to stick a true anti-war candidate into the White House (a Classical Liberal such as Ron Paul or a Ultra-Left candidate such as Kucinich or Gravel).
