It is the number one issue to me, but I think the real issue needs to be the spending. We need to cut ALL non essential government agencies.

It looks as though Bush took office just as the economy began a down-turn (old-news i know). After 9/11 the economy further slid to $648 into the red.

However, you'll notice that begining in '04 we began to collect more tax receipts. My guess is this trend is a result of tax cuts ment to spur the economy.

By giving the people a larger share of thier income, they inturn went out and spent that greater share of thier income - investing in business and consumer goods.

All of this invest sent growth through every sector of the economy, business hired more people to meet the increased demand for thier services and low and behold, tax collection went up.

It's the same economic theory that JFK used to energize the economy a year before he was killed.

Nope. Immigration should be.

The dramatic swings shown in that chart are the result of not controlling for two significant factors. 1) inflation - which really took off in the 70s and has never come back completely under control, and which causes any $-demoninated measure to grow exponentially over a long period of time, by itself and 2) size of the debt relative to the size of the economy, which gives a better idea of just how difficult it is to repay.

Bill Clinton had a surplus. He did not ever do anything that involved going to war. Good for him. Bush is a big spender!

My question back at you will Hilary do still better?

It will be a big issue, much like it was in 1992

The budget deficit is in an upward trend at least. What we need to do is cut wasteful federal spending, NOT raise taxes & enact more social programs, (Democrat plan).

If we can keep the democrats from destroying our military every damn time they are in office, we wouldn't have to keep rebuilding it. It only gets more expensive.
