I've noticed that each year, around the time of 9/11, more people seem to get a rising sense of foreboding in general. Does this happen to you or those in your circle of family and friends? What do you think about this?

Watching the 11 o'clock news a few days ago, I caught a clip of the actual news conference of Cindy Sheehan announcing her candidacy for Speaker Nancy Pelosi's House seat. Did anyone hear her say that she was dedicating her candidacy to the people of Iraq and Afghanistan? I don't remember the words verbatim, and I couldn't find the video anywhere on the web. For full disclosure, I consider myself a moderate Republican, who isn't against either war in Iraq or Afghanistan, but disappointed with the way Bush has fought it. I'm independent enough to consider voting for Democrats, but vote Republican 80% of the time. But, a statement like Ms Sheehan's is very scary to me. Is this where the Democratic party is heading?

Can the Bush administration declare any group or country they don't like as terrorists and claim that international laws and treaties don't apply to terrorists? Will they be declaring the whole country of France a terrorist group next to give them authority to invade and occupy France until the French see things GW's way? Or is it about time for the trials of George W. Hitler and Dick Goering for war crimes?

Whether right, wrong or indifferent, I ardently believe that we do not live in a time of human history that will see a woman or black man elected to the office of President. Do you think that by have Hillary and Barrack be the front runners for the Democratic party, they are handing the office back to Republicans for at least 4 more years? Very interested in others opinions on this subject.

Just commenting on my amusement with right wing Christian fundamentalists (or a great many of them). They viciously attack anything to do with Islam (or any other religion for that matter), and denounce them as naturally violent and evil... As they encourage more of a church role within the state, creating an America with fewer freedoms, and eagerly encouraging some sort of a ridiculous religious "crusade" against those who disagree with them (namely those of Islam or other religions).

Does anyone not see the hypocrisy and utter stupidity of this? I shall dare call them the "American Taliban".

A volunteer group headed by meteorologist Anthony Watts had found serious problems. Not only did sites fail to meet the NCDC's requirements, but encroaching development had put many in ridiculously unsuitable locations -- on hot black asphalt, next to trash burn barrels, beside heat exhaust vents, even attached to hot chimneys and above outdoor grills.
