I've noticed that each year, around the time of 9/11, more people seem to get a rising sense of foreboding in general. Does this happen to you or those in your circle of family and friends? What do you think about this?

Very nice answer and thank you for asking.
I feel a heightened sense of awareness in general that seems to happen every year about a month before the anniversary. Not just in myself, but in many of the people around me. A definite sadness, which goes very deep.
More than a little rage I still feel for those who did this to our country. I haven't really been nervous until this year, but I'm sure it doesn't mean anything.
But a friend of mine mentioned to me today out of the blue that he has noticed people in general seem to be more nervous and jumpy. He thought it had something to do with the anniversary of 9/11 and it stayed on my mind all day. So I thought I'd see what all of you felt about it.
Some great answers here.

Actually I remember Vietnam very clearly. I grew up with it, graduated high school in 1974.
I think most of us think about the military and civilians that have died in Iraq. I was just trying to get some feelings about the anniversary of 9/11. All the other stuff is another question altogether.

I do. It's two fold. The memories that will forever more be embedded and the fact that this would be a perfect time to create another 'anniversary'.
I don't have nightmares about it, but it's certainly in the back of my mind. What a horrid day that was and always will be.
Certain things will always stick with us. I could tell you right now, where I was and what I was doing when Pres. Kennedy got shot. I was young, but old enough to remember it until I pass on. 9/11 will remain also. But it's newer and fresher. It's something that will never be forgotten.
How about you?

September 11 is minuscule in comparison to those killed and wounded in Iraq, both civilian and military! The only thing it reminds me of is that it gave Bush his reason to attack Iraq!
Three thousand innocent people were killed at the trades. Multiply that by 100 or more and you will start to come close to those killed in just Iraq, who had nothing to do with the trades!
And I know someone is going to say only 60,000 or so have been killed in Iraq! You remember General Franks ("I don't do body counts") don't you?
26,816 Iraqi Security Forces and civilians have been killed since last September, and 837 have returned home in body bags during the same period.
9/11, while tragic in many respects, pales in comparison to those who are dying every single day since we invaded Iraq! I think we should start thinking about those killed in the past few days (26 since Aug 2 and 493 Iraqi Security Forces and civilians)), or those who are going to die today!! Or the 118 military who committed suicide in Iraq!
There is no way for me to "forget" about 9/11, but there are those who it will just be history, just as my Vietnam is before many of your lifetimes! You don't remember it at all. I do! And I always will!

It is the same as why humans remember any date that effected them and their life. As in a death of a best or close friend, a spouse, your child; the birth of your child, when you graduate from high school or college, A marriage, For me i remember all those, and when watching the men land on the moon, or when Kennedy got shot, It does tell me one thing though, Terrorist are organized when they stick to one specific plan, and that 9/11 plan took about 5 years to concieve. Starting in 1996 to 2001......The biggest problem is now dealing with any and all copy cats!

I don't. I do get sad about it though, as I spent most of Sept 11th trying to get in touch with family in NYC to make sure they were OK. Luckily, they were. But I do think about what the families of the people who didn't make it go through every year on the anniversary.
This isn't something I've ever spoken about with family members (if the anniversaries make them nervous about future attacks), so I can't say their opinions on it.
I say it's not worth worrying about, in regards to terrorists attacks on anniversaries on September 11th.
If anything was to happen again, it would be anytime. I doubt it would happen again on a September 11th.

Why you can't do anything about it. I travel the day after and it seem as if the whole world had gone mad. You can only die once and every time you travel whether in a car, plane, bus or going to the bank, it might be the last time. So live your life to the fullest and don't worry about things you can't control. Besides terrorism is a concept and you can't fight what is in someones mind you have to work at changing their thinking.

No I don't, because I really do think if we're going to be attacked again, it wouldn't be around 9-11 when the terrorists all know we will be expecting it. They're smart people, in an evil way.

I don't get nervous, but I do get sad. It was a defining moment in our history that we still haven't and probably won't recover from.
And I'm frustrated that we seem to have lost the focus of what we were fighting for. We're not fighting a war on terror were babysitting a country that can't get along.

I certainly do...........I know winter is on the way, just around the corner so to speak. I hate those long dreary gray days that it brings. (Must be a form of winter depression)
On top of that there are all of those school buses slowing traffic by picking up and letting off. September always sux to me.
