That would be a real kick in the pants to Bush of course, but the Prime Minister has given that option to the US many, many times according to sources both here and abroad.
and the fact is, despite the US pretending that they are aware of all of the meetings between Iraq and Iran, and as a matter of fact, the meetings between others and Iraq in the region, there have been many secret meetings between Iraq and those the U.S. is NOT aware of.
I think the 'terrorist' theory is phony (that Iraq is full of them) and I also think the U.S. just wants to use the "terrorist' theory to stay in Iraq.
We must remember that the Iraqis, the Iranians, lthe Saudis, and all of the others in the region really want the U.S. to butt out and take their behinds home.
If not, despite the past war between Iraq and Iran, why are they clasping hands with each other?
In reality, the US could do itself a very huge favor. Go home. And yes, there will always be so-called 'terrorists' but I really believe that those fighting in Iraq are those who just want the U.S. out.
btw research history. Yes, Iraq and Iran were once enemies. But they "fight" differently than we do. In fact since teh begnning of time, they did.
They fight and kill each other. take a break for lunch, talk to each other, and then return to battle.
Odd, but true.
Now today, they are tired of fighting,
They need each other.
And, unlike the US who are ALWAYS butting in where unneeded, they are only concerned with THEIR region, not the region of the United States.

You know what the funniest thing about that entire situation was? The Iraqi PM said that we could leave anytime in response to the Liberals and Democrats whining about wanting to cut and run and setting a timetable for withdraw. Then, in true liberal fashion, they Dems take it and spin it to make it sound like he was telling us they didn't want us there.
Of course, there was no proof of him ever saying they wanted us to leave. I know this because I posed a challange to Yahoo Answers that said if someone could provide real and scholarly proof that the Iraqis wanted us to leave, I would leave the Y!A forum and never return.
I'm still here.
By the way, the challange is still on the table (see my questions for details on the challange, here's a link)

I do not know about the Iran part. Sine, from what i know, Iran and Iraq are sworn enemies. I could be wrong.
Yes, the Prime minister did say that American forces could withdraw anytime they want. But since "The Decider" does not want them to leave, looks like we'll stay there.

The former -- yes. July 15th, the Iraqi PM said the US could leave anytime it wants and specifically asked that Patreaus be reassigned out of Iraq.
I have not seen any announcement that Iraq is seeking Iran's help -- but the PM is Shiite and Iran's govt is Shiite -- and both of them oppose Al Qaeda (who are Sunni), so it's not unreasonable.

There will American troops in Iraq until Jesus comes back (or America falls), or until we use something other than oil for energy.
There are troops in Germany, Japan, and Korea. What makes you think any President will give up ground won in battle?

If he did say it HE DIDN'T SAY IT if you get what i mean. The British commander in Helmand province has demanded that US special force get the hell out of his region because all they are doing is ordering air strikes left right and centre killing dozens of civilians and make life hell for our forces to stabilize the area with the help of the locals who they had gain the trust of.
