I have come to the conclusion that the President's botched Iraq occupation has fueled a rise in nativist/isolationist sentiment in both political parties.

Here are some examples:

The number of immigrants entering the nation was higher during the Clinton administration and has remained level for many years or has fallen some, but the issue really did not gain any attention until a few years ago. Why did the issue become paramount overnight when this has been occuring for 20 years?

Support for free trade at the beginning of the Bush term was high in both parties. You could say there was a consensus between the parties supporting it. The protectionist sentiment appears to be growing again even though the American economy has very low unemployment and the highest per capita salary in American history.

These are just two examples, but it appears Americans are turning inwards from the world since the Iraq quagmire instead of looking for solutions and being engaged in the world.

Hitler came to power too. The people who committed some of the worlds greatest atrocities known to mankind said in their defence "I was just following orders".

If you defend Bush what is your excuse? I can cite many reasons for my hypothosis. Can you?

War unites people against a common enemy. War creates jobs. War creates opportunity. War unties entire countries and entire races. War earned this country it's independence. War established us as a global super power. War gave us influence over the entire world. War brought us out of the Great Depression. The threat of war eliminated the Soviet threat of communism. And war united both liberals AND conservatives, demorcrats AND republicans, when our country was attacked on 911.

You say war is bad? I say war gives us focus, makes us stronger, and gives this country a common goal. Without war we'd be a country with 300 million crybabies complaining that taxes are too low and that the government isn't providing us with enough luxury. So go ahead and report me for violating community guidelines, and email me your nonsense. Deep down you know it's true. War works.........

I am new to following politics, but am curious what are conservative values. From what I understand, conservative is less government, less spending, diplomacy before war, no abortion, etc. Bush exhibits only one of these. I am not sure if I am repub or democrat so can someone explain what makes Pres Bush a conservative? Everything I know about conservatism I have heard on the Sean Hannity radio show.

Jimmy carter gets mocked because he said he "lusted in his heart" but remained faithful to his wife. Bob Dole, Newt Gingrich, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Rudy Guiliani, Anotnio Villaraigosa, Gavin Newsome etc. have all cheated and switched spouses like it the thing to do. Yet we ridicule the politician who was honest about temptation. What is wrong with Americans? We get in a tizzy over adulterers, but fry the man who actually respects his marriage?

Almost every time I read a question someone has found a way to do some liberal bashing. It’s like these people don’t even know what the word means. Hate liberals all you want, but at least know what you hate. Without liberal thinkers the world would be a lot different. Dictionaries still exist people, use them.

Should I dump my LIBERAL boyfriend?
Usually the nonsense he spouts (DIEBOLD) is kind of cute, but in wartime his instinctive idiocy is life-threatening.

While the form of treachery varies slightly from case to case, he always manages to take the position that most undermines American security.

Whether he is defending the terrorists or bleating for Saddam Hussein, he is always rooting against America. He is either a traitors or an idiot, and on the matter of America's self-preservation, I think the difference is irrelevant.

On top of all this, he just quit his job at Qwicki Mart where he bagged groceries. I used to find him attractive. Now when I see him in his MoveOn.org hat & his Down with America shirt I get sick to my stomach. What should I do?
