Lib Dims think Islamic facists should never be searched before boarding a plane, but there should be automatic strip searching of non-Islamic 89 year old grandmothers.

Here's some other things that work in fighting crime:

- mass roundups
- torture
- public executions
- killing and burning entire villages to punish suspects from that village
- spy cameras in every home
- putting all members of a suspected group in concentration camps

You like those ideas too?

Just because something works doesn't make it right. And it doesn't make it effective in the long run. If we claim to be defending our values and our freedom, we can't give them up to defend them.

Besides, how did profiling help this case? All it would have done is make every single Muslim male a suspect - hardly narrows it down. And it would also take non-Muslim males out of the picture - but what if the suspects were not Muslim males? What if they were posing as something else? Or they were from some other terror group, like the IRA or something?

So you would have law enforcement pull over every Middle-Eastern looking man in America on the highways to fight crime? Society would come to a halt. There would be national outrage. It's not that simple.

Yes, profiling has scientific and logical roots and it has to be used to fight crime. We as a free society has to be very careful how to use profiling. Enforcers must be specially trained so not to get carried away and provoke or insult people unnecessarily.

Profiling is probably a good idea but it may be worth noting the case of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Ordinary goth kids, killed a whole bunch of people at Columbine. Not profiled.

Terrorists aren’t stupid. Whatever group you target for profiling, they’ll find someone who doesn’t meet the profile to carry out the terrorist attack. If you’re not looking at everyone then you will miss the most dangerous.
