I have a degree in Political Science and it pisses me off to have idiots with only a high school education or they listen to talk radio, tell me that I have no idea what I'm talking about just because I disagree with them.

Sorry about the missing "t". Now answer the damn question.

2 Pionts:

#1 -Poiting out the missing "t" shows that some like to focus on the trees, while not paying attention to the forrest.

#2- Most of you are not reading what I wrote. (Logic taught me to look at the words used) I'm not the one telling people that they have no idea of what they're talking about, they are telling me that. That's the part that pisses me off. I try to educate as I talk with them. For example, if I'm talking to someone about the concepts of justice, I always ask if they have read Kant's "The Metaphysical Elements of Justice"? If they say no, I recommend it. I don't put them down for it. If they start spouting off about "what our founding fathers intended", I ask if they have read the Federalists Papers, or if they have read about John Locke. Most of the time I'm told that these writing are not relevant. By the way, my Constitutional Law professor used to laugh at my spelling and pointed out that Einstein couldn't spell well, and that I was no Einstein

You're the one with the education, let them rant and have their ways on the radio.

Remember Father Coughlin had an anti-Semitic talk show on the airwaves in the thirties. Low-brows and mouth breathers seem to be the norm on talk radio. It always has been, and people (stupid or otherwise) love hearing their voices on the ether.

Ann Coulter is an idiot; she thinks Iraq is responsible for 9-11 but she gets on the air spreading slander about John Edwards, Barack Obama (middle name Hussein, don't forget) and Hillary Rodham Clinton (who's too much of a shill for the insurance industry, but I digress) just because of party affiliation.

Let the yahoos have their talk radio; I like it when my radio plays music myself, I'm not a complete idiot, but you wouldn't catch me dead on those ditto-head shows.

I would have to say that the problem is not so much the level of education people have, but the way people use rhetoric and their willingness to engage in a civil debate.

For example, Rush Limbaugh and Michael Moore are demagogues. They preach how bad things are, but rarely offer practical solutions to the problems. These individuals and everyone like them damage our politics because they create anger without providing solutions. This is why I have become a moderate because I am a very practical person who is solution oriented not so much ideologically oriented.

The problem is that too many people are so rigidly stuck in their ideologies that they cannot see beyond it. This explains the Bush defenders and haters. These people will say anything to fit their agenda even if the President is right or wrong.

Until people realize this, our politics will continue to be dysfunctional and our government will not work properly.

I have a degree in World History with a minor in Political Science and am working on my Masters. So what? That's what I have to say about your question. We may have more finite knowledge about history and politics but even those who don't have college degrees live in the real world, can read, vote, and are affected by politics every day of their lives. They work hard, know how much money the government is taking from them, know where it's spent for the most part, and have a valid opinion of what is going on in this country. All American's opinions are valid and should be respected, whether they have a college education or not. The purpose of having a college degree should never be to hit others over the head with it, shame on you.

Education DOES matter. Ever notice how a lot of those that answer questions can't spell? Now that pisses me off! I am sure, if they went to high school they have to know how to spell. I hold an MS in Criminal Justice and I know how you feel. I love politics and the government. What really irks me is that so many folks out there have no clue what the US Constitution guarantees them. No one seems to know what the Bill of Rights ensures. Well I do, I had to memorize it and utilize it every step of the way to get my MS!!!

It does matter, but it would seem that you are confusing a degree with an education. Why not just illustrate to them why they are wrong, if you are as intellectually superior as you claim? Instead, you resort to name calling, which degrades your credibility. Talk radio can be informative, but they need to question the source, etc.

From what you have shown here, you don't have a ton of reasoning ability. Maybe these "idiots" have clued in to that, and minimize your opinion because of it.

Also, if you "know" they are wrong and they won't acknowledge it, who cares? Are you that unsure of yourself that you need their approval or adulation?

Chuckle, I have a grad degree in Electrical Engineering & also took some of the Poli Science courses taught by some of those elitest communist professors. They were sleeper courses that one could easily ace by parroting some of leftist propaganda spouted by these rascals.
I have far more respect for the guy that picks up my garbage & repairs my plumbing than I do for some elitest rascals spouting propaganda to a bunch of ignorant kids. This country, being a Democracy built on the backs of those guys with dirty hands & their name on their shirt, needs to spend a bit more time working to improve things for them. Because Education can be both formal & informal, I don't put much credit in a diploma... it means daddy paid to send you to school.
Chuckle, some of those talk show hosts are indeed idiots, but they have to control the situation & appear smarter than the people calling in.

I get what you're saying. Some people think they've won an argument by calling people names or telling them they're stupid or belittling their views through personal comments. In fact they'e stopped the discussion. They haven't 'won' anything, but they've also blocked potential conversation.
It's called passive aggression. Blocking people by belittling them is the 'style' of talk radio shows, which by the way, studies have shown are 91 percent conservative.

I graduated High School and then went on to College where I also graduated. You do realize that if you educate an idiot all you will have in as educated idiot. I know many very young people who are STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL who could run circles around both of us. Think before you post.

Perhaps discussing politics IS the education they need.

Those "idiots" are voters. If you want to have any influence on politics, you need to learn to communicate with them. That means, first of all, listen. Ask questions to find out what they believe and why. Then politely and respectfully correct their misconceptions.

Mostly I just rant, but I'm trying to persuade myself to follow the above advice.

The best course I took in college was on rhetoric....Essentially logic turned on its head, how to use every illogical way to sway an audience to believe the wrong conclusions...Listen to our political discourse, especially talk radio and you will hear every logical fallacy purposely used.
