I am a swing voter. I vote for the best candidate on election day. i don't vote for just anybody because he is of a certain party. I think that if everyone was a 'swing voter' it would make the country a better place. I just don't like the idea that 99% of the time you have 2 choices...and you will vote for some schmuck, just because he has the republican or democrat label. Just think how much harder a politician would work for you (and the country) if he knew that there wasn't already a large percentage of voters out there that he can count on voting for him every election.

LIbertarians clamor for both economic and individual freedom. If the businesses had freedom to do whatever they wanted, wouldn't that (hypothetically) then infringe on individual liberties held in such high regard? (ie corporations could limit what individuals could buy, prices and control production and absolute costs as well as wages and working days)

Usually I am against this idea but it seems to me that the extreme left wacko's have taken over the Democrat party and the Neo-Cons have taken the Republican party. While I ususally defend the President (just go through my Q&A) I do have some real problems with some of his ideas. Namely run away spending, failure to secure our borders and support of NAFTA, CAFTA, the FTAA and the SPP (Security and prosperity prememiter)
I was thinking we could call the new part the American True Conservative Party. Who is with me?

Science is the engine of progress for a country (and humanity). It's what puts a country ahead of other countries and over the long term, it's what puts their economy ahead of other countries. To reject, hamper or restrict science is to launch a direct attack on a country's competitiveness.
If he's going to play the morality card, he should play it consistently. Science's most horrific invention is the nuclear weapon. It saves lives by taking lives, just like stem cell research (assuming you consider embryos to be lives, but let's assume that for now).
If you were going to call "morality timeout" on any area of science, it would surely be nuclear weapons research. Yet he seems to have no problems with all the talk of developing new nuclear weapons, those bunker busters and the like. It's inconsistent and hypocritical, and thus to my mind indefensible.
So which ethical line do you toe? Make funds available for research, and allow the families of these embryos the freedom to decide whether they can be used in research or not, ultimately benefitting millions of lives through the research? Or would you withhold federal funding on a fallacious religious belief, and condemn these embryos to destruction?

Both men, both people I admire. My, how quickly we forget lessons we're supposed to learn from our past.

But, here goes:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public." -Teddy Roosevelt

And:

"He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot but don't let that fool you. He really is an idiot." - Groucho Marx
