I gripe because I do not see any difference between "earned citizenship" and amnesty. We already went through this with Reagan.

(do not assume that all Liberals are Democratic supporters - NEITHER side is even dealing with the issue and THAT is why I gripe.)

I am neither Dem nor Repub, I am rather liberal, but do not support amnesty at this time. Amnesty right now just rewards those who illegally came here.

I will support amnesty as a practical way to deal with the problem after and only after we get control over the inflow of illegals--by whatever means are necessary, (including shoot to kill orders to soldiers on the border if you ask me, but more practically sending the employers of illegals to jail and hitting them with stiff fines too.) After the border is closed and the 1300+ a day inflow has been stopped, then we can talk about what to do with those already here--since we cannot practically deport the number here, some method to allow them to stay should be considered, but not until the border security issue is settled.

As for Bush, the only reason why he supports amnesty is because he is owned by big business--the same guys who hire the illegals at low wages and get cheap labor. If he was only owned by his right wing fascists and his religious fundies, you could bet your bottom dollar he'd be out to lynch illegals with all the force of his office.

I'm not a Dem as I said, but I think you are very busily lumping them all together and assuming they will support amnesty. I think they are probably as divided on this issue as are the Republicans.

I believe what I have suggested is a middle road and does things logically. Those who are here illegally stay in that status while we deal with the border. When the border issue is clearly resolved, then we'll turn to dealing with the illegals. Meanwhile if caught they get kicked out.

Which Liberals were griping about it? I don't recall any. In fact, I think Immigration is perhaps the first thing that many Liberals agree with Bush on.

The only aspect of Immigration policy that I see Liberals upset about is the militarization of the border. If you don't know what's wrong with that, let me give you a hint - it's against everything America stands for.

Personally, as a Liberal, I'd much rather see the government go after the businesses that are hiring illegals then go after the illegals themselves, primarily because deporting 12 million people is ridiculously impractical.

Now here is where your dead wrong. Bush is not for securing our border. He, in fact, is for total amnesty. He and has met with the leaders of both Canada and Mexico to discuss moving forward with a North American super state molded closely after The European Union. With one Currency,One set of laws, and one central government. Atlanta has already been chosen as the capitol,by the way. So no matter what Liberal, or Neo Con talking heads may tell you, Bush, as well as every one else in the know in our government do not wish to close our border.

I've said on this forum a multitude of times that I think the Bush proposal was the right proposal. It's the first time I think I've agreed with him unconditionally in quite some time. I disagree with the House Republicans whose proposals are ridiculous and unenforcable.

And Dems aren't for 100% amnesty. They're for paying fines and back taxes and going to the end of the line in exchange for transferring to legal status. If you can't pay the fines and back taxes, then go back to your homeland.

Democrats are not 100% amnesty. Bush has no stance on illegal immigration. He continues to talk out of both sides of his mouth. Why is he such a hawk when it comes to war, but a lame duck when it comes to securing our southern border?

If you haven't been able to answer that question on your own, then CLEARLY you aren't even reading the news about this subject.

How does an idiot such as yourself decide on your stance regarding an issue if you don't even research it?

Plain and simple, they hate him more than his politics. I think if he did a complete 180 tomorrow and gave the leftists everything they wanted from shutting down all US industry to pulling out of Iraq, they would still hate him!
