Are they right?
Some version of this question comes up several times a day. So I made a copy of this so I won't have to retype it several times a day.
"Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defense if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defense shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security."
The solution. Send them more jet fighters, tanks and attack helicopters.
I just hope that the Islamo-Fascist and their supporters get their 72 virgins very soon.

There is no right or wrong, because the skirmishes between Israel and other nations in the Middle East are not about territory or resources. The Middle East is complex web of religious dogma and fighting which has been occurring for more than a Millenia. There is no easy solution. Even if Israel were to pull up stakes and leave the Middle East entirely it wouldn't put an end to conflict, because there are many in the Middle East who will not be satisfied until the Jews are destroyed and wiped completely off the face of the earth.
As to whether Israel is justified in it's current action against Lebanon, the answer is yes. The reason is because Lebanon is a safe haven for Hezbollah, a sworn enemy of Israel. Hezbollah is a terrorist organization who has invaded Israel's sovereignty and kidnapped citizens. By continuing to grant safe haven to terrorists, Lebanon in essence has made itself a terrorist state. Now if Lebanon were to take action against Hezbollah and remove them from their country, Israel would no longer be justified in pursuing continued military action.
International terrorism is the greatest threat facing the world today, and civilized nations can no longer sit idly by and watch as nations friendly to those terrorists give them safe haven and passage. The world has changed, if you harbor terrorists you now make yourself and your citizens an open target.

Yup I do. The solution is return of the kidnapped soldiers and Lebanese compliance with the UN Resolution that says disarm Hezbollah. Then and only then can we criticize Israel for what its doing, but if those things are done, Israel will stop what it is doing.
The Lebanese have only themselves to thank for this situation as they didn't disarm Hezbollah and they won't tell Syria to get out and stay out. Further the arguments being made in favor of Hezbollah's actions do not hold water--Israel's holding of Palestians as criminals is not the same as taking hostages and demanding an exchange of prisoner for hostage.
Lebanon has now allowed an act of war to take place, it should pay the price and if Syria is behind it and its clear, so should Syria.
I support israel.

I don't know if Israel is doing the best thing. But they are reacting out of anger, and they wish to wipe out Hezbollah for good. I can understand what they're doing, and I don't really blame them, but I'm not quite sure where they're going with this.
this will go one of two ways. one way, they stamp out Hezbollah (for now) and this fight will be over. the other way, they follow Hezbollah's trail into other countries. if that happens, this thing will get ugly fast.
a lot of people are predicting this will blow over in a few weeks. Israel will get its hostages back, they'll get some sort of truce from Hezbollah, and things will go back to normal.
but I don't know if that's going to happen. this is coming on the heels of several other standoffs (North Korea, Iran, etc) where the West is distracted. and the fact that Israel is being attacked from the north and south, at the exact same time, shows us there's a bigger picture.
like I said before, if Isreal takes this fight to the governments that funded it, watch out for a major war.

Yes I think the Israelis are absolutely within their rights to protect their state. The solution is the Palestinians terrorist leaders need to get down on their knees and freekin beg for forgiveness. Resign their tired terrorist asses, and let the Palestinians vote in a new group that will work side by side with the Israelis so the Palestinians can learn to build a thriving community too.

I don't think it was wrong to strike in the South, but I think it's been a little over-the-top. Hezbollah and Israel has been in a cease-fire for nearly 6 years. Hezbollah is stupid for what it did, but Israel is only making more enemies (remember Lebanon is a 50% Christian nation).
It seems to me that the whole thing has turned into a junior high school fight with each side shouting: "He started it!"
I don't care who started it. Just everyone stop it.

How many times do I have to ***** slap you before you fight back? I guess they found they had reached the correct number and are slaping back. They are doing nothing more than we did in 1916 when Pancho Vila crossed the US Mexico border and attacked the town of Columbus,NM. The President sent the US Army under Gen, Pershing in to Mexico to track the bandits(sound familar???) It was this action that led to George Patton, then a 2LT. to become a nation hero by getting in a gunfight with one of Vila's top men.

Yes, I think Israel has the right to defend itself against terrorism and death. Hezbollah attacked Israel first and should pay for the crimes they committed. Hezbollah is a terrorist group backed by Syria and Iran and is a major threat to peace in the middle east and to get rid of Hezbollah will solve the problem.

I think the most important thing for Israel and the Muslim world to do is to strive for peace. Invading Lebanon can only further intensify the already fragile situation.

I think Israel is in the right to attack any country that allows terrorist organizations, who kidnap Israeli citizens and military personnel, to stay and function in their countries. All Hezbollah and Hamas need to do is free the kidnapped soldiers, and things can go back to their usual state of uneasiness.
