Wouldn't the "fairtax" idea be better if it didn't have all that bureaucratic rebate system in its plans?

Woudn't it be better just to have certain items exempt from any sales tax, such as groceries, medicine, clothes under $50, and school textbooks.
I think having a sales tax increase could allow us to cut out income tax.
It would also tax tourists and illegal immigrants, and all "cash-only" folks when they go shopping.
I would like to know whether there would be enough revenue then to not have to cut GOOD government spending, like for education, healthcare, roads, fire, police, teachers, defense, etc. Or, would the tax burden weigh heavily on the poor and allow numerous loopholes for the bigwigs.???

This is a question for all who are anti-war.?

My husband and I were discussing this last night and wondering if people are anti this whole war, or are they just tired of the war and think at this point it is useless at this point.
I ask this because on Sept 11, 2001 I don't know of a person who disagreed with our troops going over seas and bombing and killing the people who killed thousands of our innocent men women and children in one of our strongest cities in the US. However, I think that as the years have gone on and more and more troops are dying our citizens are getting tired of it and are ready for it to come to and end. I myself understand that their is a need for war sometimes to preserve our freedom, however their is a point where we need to expect other countries to stand on their own.
Anyhow, just want to know if when you say anti-war, do you mean you disagree with everything having to do with the war or do you think that we need to withdraw at this point.
Please no ugly word I just want point of views. Thanks.

Why has the New York City Department of Education decided to open an Islamist public school whose curriculum shares the same ideology as the September 11 terrorists? Six years after the attacks and still no memorial at Ground Zero, instead 2007 will see the opening of the taxpayer funded Brooklyn based madrassah aka "The Khalil Gibran International Academy for Arabic and Islamic Culture." Slated to be the school's principal, Dhabah [aka "Debbie"] Almontaser was presented an award by the Council on American Islamic Relations [CAIR, the Saudi funded front group for Hamas and a co-defendant in a 9/11 terrorism lawsuit] and more importantly, the curriculum of her school has been designed by the radical American Arab Anti Discrimination Committee [ADC].

Whatever happened to the seperation of church and state? How can we be funding a specifically religious school with government funds? Especially a school that will be run by Hamas sympathizers?

Conservative, republican here, I voted for Bush and I supported our decision to go to Iraq?

and yep some info may have been wrong, but we got rid of a ruthless dictator, my heart bleeds haha! but now what?!
I want to support the troops and this great nation. I agree and blasting the crap outta some slimeball thugs but my prez says stay the course. But even I as a conservative republican, who isnt the slightest bit libturd, wonders what is the course? GW wont spell it out for me. I just wanna know when and what is the victory? I am not sure if trying to make them have our form of govt is the total answer. I like a view ive heard about separiting into three states like here and letting the kurds and shiites and sunnis live in each one. let them defend themselves against militants. we have trained them for over 2 years to do this!
I support our troops with all I got I am prior service too I support our prez though i may not always agree, but I just wanted to know what is the course?

Do Democrats have absolutely no sense of military strategy?

You do not gradually pull soldiers out of battle. That means the people left remaining at the front are butchered because their flanks are exposed, and the "gradual withdrawl" becomes a full-on rout.

Wars begin when you want them to, but do not end when you want. You cannot just one day decide you are done fighting and then turn your back and slowly leave. Such a plan utterly failed in Vietnam.

Besides look what happened when the British left that town. It immediately came under heavy attack. If the US left Iraq the entire country would be torn apart as each faction fights to survive, and ultiamtely one of those factions might win and come to dominate all the others not much different than under Saddam.

You go after the allies of your enemies, and you make friendships with the enemies of your enemies.
