First - because it is our language

Second - are you going to pay for all of us to learn what ever language you think should be the "official language"?

Sorry - but either I missed something here, or you are saying that English shouldn't be the language even though it is.

Dear Liberal Jerkoff:

Having English as our official language simply means that for the government to act officially, it must communicate in English. It means the language of record is the English language, and that no one has a right to demand government services in any other language.

Today, in segregated classrooms, so-called "bilingual education" keeps immigrant children from learning English, by teaching them in foreign languages. And millions of people cannot find good-paying jobs, because they lack the ability to speak English with customers, co-workers or employers.

Official English would also reinforce America's historic message to new immigrants - that we expect them to learn English as the first step in their assimilation -- and that we are committed to ensuring that all Americans share in the economic, social and political benefits of having a common language.

Assuming you mean within the USA:

Its the main language spoken by the majority of US citizens
of today. If the forefathers wanted a different Constitution and
Bill of Rights Language, they would have used it. The efficiency of standardization would SAVE money. It wouldn't be spent on repetitive documentation in every language and
interpreters. It would cause us to get together, lay down our
freak flags and diversity banners that sell every nation but our
own, and move on in a positive and fair manner. :)

One benefit might be that if English were the official language of the US then a programme of education could teach people to speak ENGLISH and not the degraded American version. This could extend to spelling (e.g. honour not honor). But this would have to be a massive project.

Waste money and effort? What in the world are you talking about. English is the official language of the United States and it needs to STAY that way.

Our founding fathers spoke English, did they not? This is America and Americans speak English. I wouldn't move to France and expect them to change their language just for me.

Because then states and counties and cities wouldn't have to supply papers in a zillion different languages. It would be ENGLISH! They also wouldn't have to send tax dollars out for bilingual schools.

If you cut out both of these two things it would help save millions of $$$$ in taxes a year...a small price to pay for having PRIDE in your country and language...which American English, is very different from the Britain English...it is unique and should stay that way!

1) It would add billions of tax dollars and miles of paperwork to every thing we do.

2) It would be supportive of the "freedom" of America to force people to think exactly like we think

3) It makes sense to have a bureaucrat tell me how to talk

4) I don't want to have to learn another language, cause its work and work is for immigrants! My parents already did the work of learning the language and working their way up the economic and social ladder, i get to ride their coat-tails!

5) It would set a good precedent for an offical religion, which would help get rid of that pesky first amendment! Nobody likes having to worry about freedom, its so... free!

6)Street signs are in English, and the ones you need to know are not in universal symbols (merge, stoplights, numbers on speed limits, the giant friggen red octagon of a stop sign) This matters the most because all immigrants who don't speak english just drive, don't eat, sleep, drink or use the restroom. They just drive constantly.

Having a common language promotes unity. By allowing society to be fragmented into groups that can't even communicate with each other, you are setting the stage for civil war.

Most Americans speak English.
It alienates us from the other countries around us.
Stops the illegals from being able to communicate to Americans as easily.
English is also the official language of aviation all over the world.
