In days gone by the governmental power in the United States was divided between the States and the Federal government. But today the Federal government has grown to a point that it completly domniates the country as a whole. Today there is almost no difference from one state to another, and state governments have been reduced to little more than administrative divisions. What's the point of states anymore... given that there is practically no state soverigenty any longer, wouldn't it be more efficient to replace elected state government with appointed administrators from Washington? And isn't it about time we changed the name United States of America? That would imply that there is any autonomy of states... how about Americaland? Or how about the People's Republic of North America? What do you think?

The White House has repeatedly refused to make current and former officials involved in the firings available except in private interviews, without transcripts. Congressional investigators have refused that offer.

"The White House cannot have it both ways — it cannot stonewall congressional investigations by refusing to provide documents and witnesses, while claiming nothing improper occurred," Leahy added.

No matter how deep your denial runs, there's only one reason the White House would refuse to let people testify and not allow transcripts to be made:

Because they have something to hide.

It's one more glaring example of how this administration thinks it's above the law and above the checks and balances our government depends on.

Bushy makes Nixon look like a choir boy.

In your opinion, at what point should we (the world, the UN, the US, whomever) stop passing sanctions on Iran and launch a military strike to disable their nuclear ambitions?

Or do you think that military action will never be acceptable, and we should continue with sanctions and other "harshly written letters" until Iran has developed full nuclear capabilities?

But Alberto Gonzales is getting hammered by the Dems for firing attorneys at the Presidents request. Isn't this a bit hypocritical? Why don't the Dems actually get something done instead of going on witch hunts? Is that all they know how to do?

I am in GATE, and that is Gifted and Talented Education
We have to do a debate, on "What should space be used for?"
We're debating on whether we should be allowed to use space for privacy and security of our nation. My group is PRO, meaning that we should use space as a method to keep ourselves safe, and secure. For example: we should be allowed to use a satellite system (such as Google Earth) to look into people' homes, etc.

Could you help me with examples for why space should be used to protect our privacy and make us secure? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE AND THANK YOU

but on one condition: you have a random chance of ending up trading places with ANY American - could be Donald Trump or Bill Gates, could be a homess person or an Appalachian struggling to make ends meet. You have an equal chance to "win" the life of any of your 300,000,000 fellow Americans.

Would you take the chance? Why or why not?

I guess this question is trying to determine how well off we think we are compared to the average American, or how well off we think the average American is.

I post it in politics because "class issues," and their implications for legislation and policy, come up often.

Yes, I assume people would not want to leave their family, friends, etc. to live someone else's life - I'm talking economics and social position, mostly. Work with me here, people!

So . . . what say you?

Thanks!

I think George W. Bush is desperately trying to get an immigration bill passed because it lets all of the employers who have been hiring illegals off the hook!

This is an EMPLOYER AMNESTY BILL in disguise !!!!

And he wants to prevent these 20 million illegal immigrants from automatically becoming Democrats.

The Democrats are definitely salivating at the prospect of gaining the majority of these illegals as registered Democrats.
