Actually, the govt. is banning private military arms contractors from selling F-14 spare parts to Iran.
Private military arms contractors (most of which are Americans) are mercenaries and don't give a hoot about the USA.
In a way, it really doesn't matter much. The F-14 is outdated and would be easily out manuvered and outgunned by the F-18 Super Hornet.

Look, I hate what is happening in the world, threats and violations of peace everywhere. Nobody takes a principled stance these days, which is a shame. The world should accept that Iran has done nothing wrong, In "legal" terms Iran has a RIGHT to pursue civilian nuclear energy, they are a signatory to the NPT, which gives them the right of proliferation, they are also allowing UN inspections to their sites, a recent report by the UN inspection team suggest that Iran is NOT proliferating for Weapons. I fear incompetence, I fear blow back and I fear the unknown. Do not provoke Iran, for the consequence can potentially be disastrous for everyone. higher Oil prices, more casualties, innocent dying, plus the risk of spreading the war to other regions, along with radiation spreading across Iran, India and elsewhere.

We don't use F-14's anymore, so parts are Army surplus which is sold to other countries. Congress just passed its second bill to prohibit these sales, but this sort of thing, supplying our enemies with weapons, goes on all the time.

Greed trumps everything. That's why Khrushchev said we'd sell them the rope to hang us. We didn't, but we fed them during the Reagan Administration. Carter had embargoed wheat shipments after the USSR invaded Afghanistan, but Reagan put farmer's profits above his Cold War aggressiveness, and actually criticized Carter for it!

Where did you get this from? We haven't sold F-14 parts to Iran since the Shah was in power.

We are selling them the parts so that when we go to war with them, it will be a little more challenging and we won't just walk all over them.
