I'm the SPL of my troop. We had a rough year before I was elected, with an equally bad SPL. Now, things are starting to look better, and the troop is gaining some of it's stability (We've been in service since 1965, so failure is not an option) and things are going good. Sounds like everyone's happy, right? Well, yes, everyone except for me. I have litterally had to work until I dropped to make sure I don't blow it. I generally spend at least 5 hours a week just doing things that doesn't even have to do with the meeting. Now, heres the real problem: We might have elections coming up soon. In this case, I would be replaced by someone who isn't going to do NEARLY as good as I have. I know this one person is going to win because he knows all the younger kids, who make up most oft the troop (therefore he'd get the most votes) So, should I continue to have elections and be replaced and watch the troop fall, yet be happy, or face my pain and continue for another SIX months?

My son (age 14) is in a public school in Virginia. He has told me several stories over the past three years about the school librarian and others talking about politics, specifically calling the President a liar as well as expressing their views to the class about the war in Iraq and such. Two years ago he went to the librarian for help in choosing a book for a report. She suggested "Sorry Everybody: An apology to the world for teh re-election of George W. Bush." He brought the book home and I looked through it and found that it was a a book full of photographs of people with home made signs of apology. How is he supposed to write a report on that. To top it off, the librarian was in the book! Today she told them that soldiers were only saying that Iraq was not as bad as it appears on the news is because they are forced to lie. She specifically referenced a soldier that had talked with teh students a few weeks ago adn basically called him a liar. What should I do?

Let's look at facts:
1. If one looks at the results of the Nov elections and subsequent polls, it is clear that the vast majority of Americans don't support Bush's policies in Iraq.
2. Bush threatens to veto today's Senate bill on Iraq because it has 'timelines/withdrawal dates' and 'pork'. The supposed 'pork' includes (belated) aid to Katrina victims, farmers in disaster areas, kids in need, etc.
3. Bush states that he will veto if the proposed bill contains the 'pork' or the 'timelines/withdrawal dates' '.
The conclusion is that Bush:
1. Doesn't give a **** (self-censorship) about the majority opinion of Americans.
2. Doesn't give a **** (self-censorship) about the problems of normal Americans.
3. Thinks that 'funding a civil war' is more important than 'funding' local projects and needs.
How can one support such a man?

Republians love to say "it's vital to the war on terror"... but I don't think I've ever seen one actaully discuss to what degree, and why they think so...

Republicans, time to pull out those facts you always talk about....

and which "terrorists" exactly are you after... there are terrorists of some sort in every nation in the world...

Good for who? Certainly not the average American.
-average income is down 2.7%
-health care costs for an average income earner are up almost 80%
-energy costs for an average income earner are up 60%
-college tuitions are up 40% on average

Bush tax cuts were designed for, and solely benefit, the upper 1% of income levels. All of this while this administration has driven up the national debt to record levels of $2.7 trillion dollars. Of which China and Japan own $1 trillion of that debt. And this debt DOESN'T count the $500 billion dollars already spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. We all should be glad to see this moron leave office.

I watched an Inconvenient Truth last night and was intrigued at his ability to speak publicly without a teleprompter or flash/cards. He spoke as if he really did study the subject. He has had his hands in environmental affairs in the past. (Although his personal energy saving techniques seem to be in question.). If anyone has ever met him, whats he like?
Please: Insults and political rhetoric will get you flagged. I am asking a question about a person. Nothing political about it, just a question...seriously.
