I don't know how the economy works in Iran and the media portrays the government as fairly strict. So how free is the exchange of money? How high are taxes? Can one become rich, a millionaire? And if so, doing what? Who are the Iranian millionaires and how did they get that way?

Excuse me?? MOST Iraqis are living in despair day by day, much more so than before the war started. If you were to tell an Iraqi that you freed them (if they understood you) they would burst into a tirade, yelling that you destroyed their beautiful country and destroyed their lives in exchange for new civil rights.
I would be unhappy if i was living in new-found poverty and was exposed to death on a daily basis, no matter how many new rights I received! Wouldn't you?

In addition to his name and state, I'm curious about how others feel about him using the Qu'ran for his swearing in.

For the record, I myself prefer he use the Qu'ran over the Bible. The idea is to make a person swear on the word of the God he believes in so that he is much more likely to do his best. If one does not believe in Jehovah why would one care if he swears on Jehovah's word. If one does not believe in Jesus, why would he feel more likely to do right by swearing on the word of Jesus.

So by the same token, if he believes in Allah I want him to think if he ever goes against his word Allah will be looking for him. I've heard the man speak though, and I believe him to be a man of his word even without the swearing in. But since we require it anyway, I prefer he use the Qu'ran since that is what he believes in. I'm curious if others agree or not.

Then you are ignorant of the world socio-economical situation.
The ones who end up suffering the consequences of the socio-economical injustices of the world are the poor of the world, the ones who have no voice, no choices.
Ask and illegal immigrant if they are happy to break the law and come to a country who doesnt welcome them. They certainly wont tell you they wanted to, but they where obliged in order to survive.
They were born in countries in which no matter how much they work they cant feed their families, they are forced to, they have no choice, if they stay they die, period.
And why their countries cant give them opportunities? It is a very complex world situation.
It is the fault of the entire world system. Too much richness in a few countries, to little in others.
And who end up paying the price. The poor of the world!
In order for this people to stay and thrive in their countries the entire world would have to change. The resources would have to be evenly distributed

Recently, Keith Ellison swore into his congression position using the Koran.

I just wanted to hear some feedback and opinions on this.

I personally think it's great, eventhough I'm pretty sure most congress men or women don't swear in holding a Bible either.

The media seems content to allow both political parties to spin their false rhetoric and reinforce silly "stereotypes" that no longer ring true. In particular, the party of fiscal responsibility has been anything but, turning a surplus into a deficit during what they claim is economic prosperity, and have even made the claim, in justifying tax breaks the government cannot afford, that living beyond your means is acceptable. Why does it take the "godless liberals" to pass legislation ending free trips and meals (i.e. bribes) from lobbyists. Why is the party supposedly supported by Jesus so in favor of building a wall around our country to keep out undesirables? And whatever happened to the concepts of limited government, privacy, local control, and lower taxes? Do these only apply if one is wealthy, a corporation, or a church? The only people who have seen tax cuts are those that either didn't need one, or were already being subsidized by the government; how is this more fair?

For example---Do you think our government should stop subsidizing corn? Maybe stop the sponsorship of feeding our kids processed foods in school cafeterias? (Government cheese, mystery meat, etc...)Do you think this problem is big enough to attack politically? What do you think should be done, if anything?

Without enough power to ram through their agenda (not that they have one but that's another story) how soon will it be before they need to start making excuses (no matter how lame) to their foam-at-the-mouth base?

You know, as we speak, they're under siege from a fifth column known as the Blue Dog Democrats. The Dems have just elected a BUNCH more of 'em and the Blue Dogs don't exactly see eye-to-eye with the wack-jobs from NY and CA who are running the party.

The party put these guys forward 'cause they realized they'd never return to power with their standard far-left wing nonsense. BUT, what're they gonna do now that they've run and elected enough Blue Dogs to swing a vote to the Republicans if the far-left wingers get too far off the reservation?

Summary: It's gonna be great FUN to watch (nothing new there, right?) :-))

I was just wondering if I was the only person who feels this way?
I realize that President Bush makes bad decisions, and that there are people out there that probably can handle our country's situation better and with more tact. I also understand that sometimes he says and does stupid things (we all do) but can't we still appreciate him as a human being and give him the respect he deserves, that we all deserve, while disagreeing with his actions?

And don't answer this by just hurling issults at him because I will report you, for once I would like to see intelligent answers.

Can anyone give me some really good information that might stump the opposing team and help me win the argument. I'm going against some pretty good debaters!

Thanks!!!
