Immigration - February 2007

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Immigration

I was reading a question that DAR posted about the raids, and the guy who got BA said that he thought that this was a ploy by the government, to in words, hold us over, until they sneak this amnesty bill past us. You notice no one is really putting any real emphasis on this immigration thing. And honestly I think we are fighting a losing battle. I mean there are only a handfull of "people who matter" that are doing something about this. Everyone one else is talking a big game but hardly anything is getting put into action.

I mean I'm not racist or anything. In fact I'm half black, but I noticed that black people don't really get much respect from anyone in this forum.

What kind of visa do I need for re-entry? I will still have property or an address in the USA, and most likely I'd be back 4 times a year. How long does it take to apply for this type of visa?

I am so bugged about this. My best friend is an undocumented resident and he's been in the U.S. since he was 7 years old (he's 22 now by the way). His parents came and overstayed a vacation visa and didn't have the opportunity to apply for legal residence. Now my friend is having a difficulty with College, Drivers License, Jobs, etc. etc. just because of a mistake his parents made. The thing is he is Really Really Smart and is practically an American! He recently fell in love with a girl a few months ago and he thinks she may be the one. I want to know whether or not he can legalize his status by marrying her (she's a PR btw, not a Citizen) and still be able to stay in the country during the process!!! Please help! Thanks.

well, I just found out that if you want to be a citizen of Japan, you have to give up your other citizenship by age 22. My question is, is there a difference between Residency and Citizenship? If so What. Do you have to have a visa to be a legal resident of a country and get a bank card and land (etc.) Or do you have to be a Citizen? Do you need a Green card?

(Please provide serious answers!)

in 2001, 250,640 people immigrated to Canada. Based on the Canada 2001 Census total population of 30 Million people, immigration represented almost 1% population growth that year. On a compounded basis, that immigration rate represents 8.7% population growth over 10 years, or 23.1% over 25 years. My question to you is, are we as a society doing what we can to help these new immigrants succeed?

Quite the contrary he is encouraging it . Locking up Border guards, talk of amnesty ( guest worker program is essentially the same thing) . The United States is a country whos existence is threatened by this wave , and sadly it is politicians (on both sides), who are guarenteeing its demise.
