Immigrants in the 1800's expected to work and help build the country; immigrunts today expect to steal and live off the country until it is one big trash heap like they are coming from.

It doesn't. The biggest effect on culture is the Federal reserve and the IRS along with the immigration issues passed in 1965. Oh by the way Ted Kennedy is going to introduce "Amnesty" legislation this coming up week in the senate. Just thought i'd let you know. I thought offering amnesty was a one time thing done in 1986? Bunch of liars. They all need to be thrown out on their a55es.

Thats too broad a question...the immigrants affected it in a positive manner,no doubt but there is no way to tell what the diversity did to impact the dynamic.....they were here, the country grew and prospered...that should be enough

To answer this question you need to look at the social / political / economical events that were occuring in Europe and throughout the world to understand why people would want to leave Europe to come to America.
One of those events would be the impact of Napoleonic wars as Britain searched for new economic markets outside of Europe. As migration from Europe increased due to wars, famines, these migrants left Europe to go to the United States. For example, German migrants, Italian migrants fleeing from war, Russian migrants fleeing from persecution.
When people migrated, it was looking for a better life due to hardships back at home. You really need to look at migration to the U.S in 1800's on the internet and events in Europe.
