I know how you feel, some people have to grow up a Little, because is the same with Spanish people, if an American hears an Spanish people speaking Spanish the first stu... think they say is "Hey this is my country, go back to Mexico"!!, So well, what i say is thatt tha people who think like that are just ignorants, they don't think that is an excellent think to have what is call "Culture" In USA, so they are ignorants when it comes to someone else culture, and they don't care anyway!!, so that is the worst part of ignorance.
So keep speaking your own language, at work at the street, any place you feel like speaking it!!!!!

I know where you're coming from, because even though I'm an English-speaking American, I also speak some German and Spanish. Whenever I speak other languages, I sometimes get rude looks and comments. A lot of people argue that since we're in the US, we should speak only English. However, these people seem to forget the fact that the US isn't only Anglo-American. Diese Leute sind nur Arschlochs, und sie koennen mich mal...:)

I remember speaking English in Germany and a women getting angry, saying I should speak German when in Germany. I was in high school and had not taken German.
I understand that to speak or at least try to speak the language of the country you are in shows respect.
People speaking other languages like English in Germany comes off disrespectful. Comprende homie.

Because they are stupid. America doesn't have an official language so you can speak whatever language you want to. Besides they arent a part of your conversation so why the heck are they butting into your business anyway? What would be rude was if you were speaking to them in german when you are capable of speaking english.

Because it makes them uncomfortable. They wonder if you are talking about them. It's their own insecurity coming out. I'm surrounded by Vietnamese speaking people when we go to see my guy's family. I don't assume they are talking about me and they do their best to include me when I am the only one there who can't speak their language and they don't speak mine very well. Maybe if you try to include your friends a bit more, they might be more understanding.

As you mentioned: 'something stupid like that'. Ignore them: they have to live with themselves 24/7, you only need to shut them out occasionally.
