Illegal immigrants are a drain on our country's public resources. The jobs they fill would otherwise be performed by our native poor, and with a shrinking labor pool wages for such jobs would increase. As for the $20 head of lettuce nonsense that is piped by so many: With better wages paid to native workers in many industries, consumer prices may rise modestly, but be more than offset by gains made by poor Americans, who don't send their money abroad.
Illegal immigrants don't hurt the economy of the rich, but they most decidedly hurt wages and job opportunities of the poor native born, mostly white and black. In addition, they degrade and exhaust tax-supplemented resources that serve poor and middle class americans, like public education, health care and infrastructure.
What do they deserve? Nothing, the better question is what do we as Americans and taxpayers deserve? We deserve much more, and we get much less in large part because of the glut of poor, undereducated illegals.
