I went for my H-1 stamping to India in in Dec 2006 but while entering the US, the immigration officer noted that my passport was expiring in august 2007 so he gave me an I-94 till Aug even though my visa is valid till sept 2009. HE said I could go to an immigration office here and get it extnded once I get my new passport. I have a new passport now but what is the procedure for this?
Can I go to Canada and when returning get a new I-94?
Thanks
Swati

Yes, you can go to Canada and get a new I-94 or else go to the nearest Citizen and Immigration Services (CIS) office. You can find the nearest one on www.cis.gov.

Have you extended your passport yet? Once you've done that, you should be able to just leave the country and come right back with a new I-94 card. Depending on your country, they may give a whole new passport, or they may just put an addendum in it for the extension. If they give a new passport, make sure to take your old one too because the new one won't have the H-1B visa stamp.
