I have a friend who was brought to America from Germany when she was very small. Her step dad was in the war and married her mother but she is still illegal. I went to high school with this girl, we've been friends for years. Now she's 24 with kids of her own, and she's in an abusive relationship. She's afraid to get out of it because he would, most likely have her deported and she'd never see her kids. Her step-father refuses to help her. What can she do, and is there anything I can do to help her?

I think we need to ping every FReeper we can on this issue. Start a petition to the President of the United States to pardon both of these men, give them their jobs back, and fire both the Prosecutor and the Judge. This is despicable and needs to be remedies ASAP!!!!

EL PASO, Texas -- Two former U.S. Border Patrol agents were each sentenced Thursday to more than a decade in federal prison for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler and then trying to cover it up.

Ignacio Ramos was sentenced to 11 years and one day, and Jose Alonso Compean was sentenced to 12 years. Both were fired after their convictions on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction of justice, and a civil rights violation.

The men, neither of whom spoke in court, will be allowed to turn themselves in Jan. 17.

The agents have proclaimed their innocence in the Feb. 17, 2005, shooting of admitted drug smuggler Osvlado Aldrete Davila.

Aldrete was shot in the buttocks as he fled across the Rio Grande into Mexico after a confrontation with Ramos and Compean. The agents said they shot in self defense, but prosecutors charged that they had no reason to shoot at the fleeing man, who later claimed he was unarmed.

Since their convictions, support for the agents has swelled. Several prominent law makers, including U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner, the Wisconsin Republican who chairs the House judiciary committee, have even called for a Congressional investigation into the agents' prosecutions.

The union representing most rank and file Border Patrol agents established a legal defense fund. And civilian border watch groups have asked the U.S. Attorney General's office to review the case and throw out the jury's guilty verdicts.

Why should Mexicans be given preference? That in itself would be against the law, and would open the government up to suits filed by citizens of other nations. And believe me, there would be plenty of lawyers ready and willing to take that suit.

And no, the marketplace is no longer able to determine employment. Many laws now govern labor. But I will say this, I believe that large numbers of unskilled workers drive down wages. And I also believe that the unemployment rate for native hispanics in the US is very high, and the large numbers of illegal aliens contributes to that.

."Oh, but they broke a really stupid law. That makes them bad. Nobody in America has ever broken stupid laws, ever. I mean, the way those illegals are acting, you might have thought that America was founded on the breaking of immoral law, or has a proud history of such or some silly stuff like that.How is protecting American sovereignty "immoral"? Seriously. Unless you are arguing that a nation does not have a right to decide levels of immigration, then I don't get it.

Mexico's southern border is a veritable Maginot line. That's what makes their faux indignation about us closing our own borders so nauseating. The hypocrisy stinks to the high heavens. Don't fall for all their puffery about justice and compassion for a split second. Immigration activists are spouting the kind of manipulative hooey Liberals have been feeding us for decades. And now the problem has grown unamanageable. We need to regain control of our borders. Act now! Stop the flood! Enforce our laws!

Whenever I hear people whistling at each other across the street to communicate, it hardly ever seems to be a White, African American, or Asian—it’s always a Mexican Does the frequency of a whistle carry farther than voice frequencies across a ranch, the desert or Mexico City traffic jams? Or is it learned behavior from living in an ambiguous environment (immigrant-friendly and -unfriendly) that whistling is somehow more discreet? Or is it cooler to whistle instead of yelling the other person’s name?

well united states just passed the 300 million mark and the bush admin was all hush hush about it.seems that the 300 millioneth was probably bieng smuggled in the trunk of a car and with the elelctions on illegal immigration coming up he didnt want his new slaves being given a bad name.what congressman can i call to help prevent any reforms on illegal immigration.i want tougher laws against it!

I have information about a woman who is an illegal alien. A couple of months ago she entered into a fake marriage to get her green card. I have known this information for a couple of months now and even though I do not agree with people entering into fake marriages to get a green, I decided to mind my business instead of reporting her to immigration. Well, now I have learned that this woman is going around bragging that she has beat the American system and that we Americans are idiots! Now like I said I was going to leave this woman alone but now she pissed me off and I want to report her to immigration. What do you think? Additional info...this woman has also bragged about gaining a job with a reputable company, Choicepoint Inc. This company provides background checks on employees for other companies. She is very full of herself and really starting to irritate the hell out of me. Please advise.

This is a question about UK but read it anyway. It probably happens in the US anyway, maybe I'm not sure.

Now people are always saying how the minorities (muslims in this case) should be accepted and intergrated into the culture of another country (in this case UK). This is intergration. Now this woman who got fired for her veil-wearing, her wearing this veil is an act of seperation, not intergration. She is seperating herself from the indigenous people of UK (the British who are NOT muslim) If she were to intergrate, then she should remove the veil and dress like European women. If she wants to dress up like a proper Muslim woman then she must return to the Middle East. This is why intergration isn't working.

Am I right or wrong?

Let's review what Mexicans want....

1. They want the whole population of Mexico to be able to move to America because Mexico is a lousy place to live.

2. They want free healthcare from America.

3. They want Americans to learn Spanish or provide translators because they don't want to learn English.

4. They want to fly the Mexican flag in America even though they don't want to live in Mexico.

5. They want all Americans to provide these things and just shut up unless they want to be called racist.
