Which would you choose?
Not based on your political conviction, just on your ability to feed your family and to wake up feeling good about life in the morning.

... so why don't we create more incentives for locally based micro-renewable generation projects?

Some plus points:
- If we're responsible for generating our own power, it would probably make us far more responsible in our consumption.
- Communities are often atomised, people isolated from their neighbours; creating an important common purpose would foster co-operation and help rebuild communities - that's how they got formed in the first place.
- If neighbourhoods were organising and taking on such responsibilities, then they might gain the confidence to take on other roles - e.g. custodianship of their green spaces and other heritage.
- Such initiatives could go a long way to reversing the trend for bigger, more centralised government, and help counter the power of multi-national energy brokers.

Ay, there's the rub: Power's crucial to their power.

Will they let us?

Do we need their permission?

Whaddya think?

I'm a Republican in the Houston, TX area. Whenever a bill comes up for a vote I support or oppose it's pretty easy to contact my senators -- Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchenson -- because they are both Republicans. I know that they share many of the same political values that I do and I can point to the party platform on how I want them to vote. However, my congressman is the Hon. Nick Lampson, a Democrat. How can I ask him as my representative to vote for or against a bill in a way that would be meaningful to him even if it would be contrary to his party's platform and political values?

Subject: Don't buy gas on May 15th, 2007

Hey, let's give it a try. It just might prove something! May I rrecommend that you mark your calendars (I am) so we won't forget!

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on may 15th
in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are not to go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

I will be attending this town hall meeting with John Edwards tommorow. The event starts at 2:00p.m., but I don't get out of class until 1. (I attend the college he will be speaking at). Is there any chance of being able to get into the room he will be speaking in? It's a multipurpose room, sort of a small cafeteria. Any tips?

It's just surreal and horrific to me the direction this once glorious country has driven itself into, and the very real and urgent danger this administration poses to other nations, and ultimately, to ourselves. I feel that we are in so deep there is no turning back, and I fear for my own safety and the safety of my children. What can an individual do in the face of such absurdity? I vote. I march in protests. I've joined organizations, and I've written my senators dilligently and desperately seeking real and pronounced action against this belligerent and seemingly unstoppable government. This all seems so useless, and hopeless, and just 'waiting it out for the next tide to come along in 2008 doesn't cut it. I want accountability, I want action, I want this all to stop and I want to stop feeling guilty about being an American.
What can I DO to help this CAUSE? Do not answer me if you are going to belittle my beliefs or questions, because it will fall on deaf ears.

Ok, my grandpa was drafted for Vietnam War service. At that time the draft mostly caught the underpriveleged. Its a long story but he got drafted because of inability to concentrate which caused him to fail some college classes and lose his forebearance. My idea is to make military service mandatory for the children of elected office holders so that they will have a personal stake in their votes. Also any college student who completes two years should be required to serve for two years in the military, or as an unpaid urban worker assisting the less fortunate, or paid service in an overseas assignment if the place is dangerous. ALL colleges that receive 5% or more government money including tuition assistance, government scholorships, grants to faculty members, etc would require their student body to serve. This would answer the argument that only the lower classes serve. High school graduates vocational ed students, dropouts, would be exempted. HS graduateds could enlist.
