Many different things could happen. Fines, costs, or even incarceration. The good thing is that you can be excused from jury duty for many different reasons. Also, your employer can not retaliate against you if you have been summoned for duty. It is a violation of federal law. So, the best thing to do is show up and hope you get excused.

most judges take a very dim view of examples of contempt of court, and will likely issue a bench warrant for your arrest.

you can be locked up on that bench warrant for days and days, before you even see the judge to present your reasons for not appearing on the jury duty summons.

glance at the Constitution. the Right to Trail by Jury ranks right up there with Freedom of Religion ( not FROM religion as most liberals would have us believe ) and Freedom to Be Armed...

this goes back to one of the basic problems in our culture: any 5-yr-old can tell you about their Civil Rights, but far too few of us can list our Civil Responsibilities. it's your obligation to appear when summoned by a legitimate function of the Court...your freedom is not without cost...and considering that we live in the most wonderful country in the History of Mankind ( sorry Libs, get used to it ), doing your bit for the Cause ain't that bad...

You will be held in contempt of court. You will be fined. If you don't show up and pay, then you will be arrested, where upon you will show up in court, but in the docket rather than the jury box.

The courts will most likely issue a warrant and when you get pulled over for even the most minor traffic violation....you will be arrested on the side of the road!

You could be arrested for contempt of court! It's better to tell them you cannot afford to loose a day at work and stay on the straight and narrow.

they will issue a warrant for your arrest. If you just forgot and you call in the next day, they will most likely reschedule you, but if it has been a while, you are probably wanted by now.
