To become a Justice of the Peace you need to be nominated.

The nomination goes to your loacl MP who has to endorse the nominee.

According to the Royal Federation of Justices' Association nominees must have an adequate standard of education and a genuine desire to serve the community. They should have a good standing in the community and should be respected as persons of good sense, character and integrity.

Once the nomination is made and processed a series of procedures has to take place including a confidential check through the Police to see if you have any criminal convictions.

A JP holds his or her appointment for life or until they resign.

So I guess it is relatively hard.
