If you imagine a line, the left side of the line would be the greatest distribution of power in government, as in communism. The right side of that line would represent the most centralized distribution of power, as in fascism. The U.S. is a republic, which means that the power of our government is distributed moderately. Since the American system is designed to promote the election of wealthy individuals, our spot on the line would be more toward the right than the left. If we were more democratic (meaning that the power of government would be distributed among more citizens) we would be more "left." Hope this helps.
