Next week I have to give a speech in front of my entire college about the war, and how to get kids involved in the voting process. My entire Speech class is giving individual speeches, and a lot of the more common topics have been chosen (i.e. bush's cut on financial aid, soldiers dying, ...)

i need a topic that will appeal to college level kids. i've looked at TONS of anti-war websites, and i am looking into the details of bush's speeches right now, but i'd still like to know your input. i'd appreciate only helpful answers please.

"Insects do not deserve to be eaten alive especially for a gratuitous marketing gimmick," PETA spokeswoman Jackie Vergerio told Reuters.

Has Jackie ever watched the Discovery Channel? I am sorry to break it to her, but millions if not billions of insects get eaten alive every day.

Akbar and Abu are talking about their children.

So Akbar shows Abu a picture of his 1st born.
" This was Mahmoud, He is a martyr."

He shows another picture.
"And this is Mohammed. He too is a martyr."

And another.
"And this was our youngest Yassir. He also was a martyr."

Abu comments, " Ah children, they blow up so fast!"

Barbara Streisand is in the news tonight for shouting the F word at a heckler during her skit with a George Bush impersonator.

However, when she herself was skewered on South Park, she was far less tolerant of the right to express humor through irony.

She condemns someone for speaking out against a tasteless (and long winded) series of jokes about Bush, but remember how she spoke out against a tasteless series of jokes about herself?

But that's Barbara. I can excuse her nonsense, she's an egotistical celebrity. What I want to know is, why did the audience cheer when she told a member of the audience to "shut the f--- up", and later gave some BS line about "tolerance" (wee bit hypocritical) and then said "the role of an artist is to disturb".

That would make the heckler an "artist" by her standards.

I'm not sure, but I think that qualifies as hypocrisy on at least three different levels. And the audience was no better.

Politics aside, do you agree with her or not?

Using hundred$ of billions of your tax dollars, your powerful military and the most sophisticated weapons money can buy, the best evidence shows this "war on terror" is a horrendous failure with almost 3000 deaths of soldiers, tens of thousands of devastating injuries and no way out. Republicans have created a massive foreign guerrilla operation in Iraq that hates the US (and that wasn't there before).

America is in the worst danger every and the Bush Administration still won't listen to its best experts! If you wanted to waste your time trying to get their attention, what would you say is their biggest mistake?

I went on www.familywatchdog.us
and was surprised to see how many sex offenders live in my nieghboorhood. I feel like telling all my nieghboors. They even have pictures posted. Its sickning what thier crimes were. I remember watching on the news of a mother who did something about it. I think she made a PUBLIC effort to warn all her nieghboors about THEM and the sex offenders family were furious. Has anyone done something like this or heard of it? What can I do? Whats legal and not?

Do southerners think the american flag during the civil war is racist? It has 13 stars (for the 13 colonies) and it is triangular with two points. This is the flag of america then, (the south made their own flag to separate from the rest of america) Do they now think that flag is a thing against southerners and try to ban it? They do fly that flag in a lot of the northern states. Why don't all southerner get together and call that flag an abomination to the culture of the south and ban it? Grow up people!

I know of a public school where the students are required to perform 60 hrs of community service in order to graduate. These are good, smart, young people. It is assumed that the volunteer work will help the community and make the students better citizens when they graduate. I need suggestions for projects to propose. Thanks.

CARLSON: It goes deeper than that though. The deep truth is that the elites in the Republican Party have pure contempt for the evangelicals who put their party in power. Everybody in…

MATTHEWS: How do you know that? How do you know that?

CARLSON: Because I know them. Because I grew up with them. Because I live with them. They live on my street. Because I live in Washington, and I know that everybody in our world has contempt for the evangelicals. And the evangelicals know that, and they're beginning to learn that their own leaders sort of look askance at them and don't share their values.

MATTHEWS: So this gay marriage issue and other issues related to the gay lifestyle are simply tools to get elected?

CARLSON: That's exactly right. It's pandering to the base in the most cynical way, and the base is beginning to figure it out.

Republicans have aligned with the Evangical Christian right. If their 'born-again christian' philosophy is carried into the Supreme Court (which is the goal of the far right wing) we can look forward to a shift in our basic freedom - that being FREEDOM of CHOICE. We are already living with PROHIBITION - 'vice laws' enacted by those who need to tell the rest of us how and what we can or can't do with OUR OWN BODY.
If the Supreme Court swings to the right (by way of appointment ) we can see a challange to Roe Vs. Wade, restrictions on stem cell research, gay rights, etc. More 'prohibitions' mean more trouble. The 'black market' is thriving as it is along with all it's crime and corruption. I do not want to see us go backwards with our 'personal' freedom of choice, and i'm tired of seeing our tax dollars go down the drain just to enforce a moral standard that never has worked, is not working, and never will work. Right Wing - I, and my body, belong to ME.

The government (central and local) is intent upon placing bugs on wheelie bins to measure the amount of rubbish deposited per household. Then a charge is to be made in addition to an already exhorbitant council tax. Is this just another by-the-back-door tax or really, as espoused, an attempt for us all to become more eco-friendly?

The question I asked was a genuine one and one which I asked genuine people to answer. I am neither naive or young and have had plenty of experience in my life, which led me to asking people to join with me and other likeminded people to start an organisation to counter the current religious fervour which is gripping the world. Not only that , the British soldiers out fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, don't have enough equipment to carry on fighting as it is, and with the intent of governments to further the war in Iran, what are they going to fight with, the soldiers are being charged the cost of a bullet, how can we expect this to go on.As I said in the original question I only wanted genuine people to answer, no smart Alex's like D99. And who do people think they are that they can judge my dismissal of religion. Am I not entitled to my opinion, this is one of the reasons I despise religion and all it stands for if you don't believe what they believe then you are wrong.
