First, you should sign up as a perverted justice member and ask your question there. You will get a lot of helpful answers.
An unconvicted sex offender who probably molested one boy and murdered another moved into my neighborhood over the summer. His parents had him live with them until he found housing. His cases didn't go to trial due to lack of evidence. In the first case, the mother didn't want the son to testify. In the second, a rainstorm washed evidence off of the body. There was other evidence that pointed to him, but not enough of it.
One thing you need to realize is that neighbors all respond differently. There were families that seemed to care less that he was there. They let their children out as usual because they were too tired from working to supervise their children. They simply told their children to stay away from his house. They took the information as fun gossip rather than something they should act upon.
There were neighbors that didn't have children that were not concerned at all. They simply believed that he would only go after children even though he had a criminal record for something else. We had two robberies while he was here and one car theft. Prior to his being here we had three crimes over the past ten years. I'm not pointing the finger at him, but it was suspicious.
There were neighbors who were concerned. These were probably half of the people who had children. It was a mess because still some of these people thought it was okay to watch the children play through a window. I thought a parent should be outside at all times with the children. So, in stating my position it seemed like I was telling parents they weren't good enough.
I think it is legal to hand out flyers. But you don't want to do that. Pedofiles are well organized and you don't know which men in your neighborhood are unconvicted pedofiles. So you could inadvertently hand a flyer to the wrong person. I think you should discuss it with some of your neighbors with children and hand them the website address with the information if you would like. I printed something up and often kept it in my pocket because not many people seemed really interested in the information.
In a neighborhood south of mine, the community did band together and protested outside the pedofile's home. This pedofile was living with his parents and he moved out. So, neighborhoods all react differently.

In Ohio the police have to notify all the neighbors w/in a certain area that a sexual predator etc has moved into the neighborhood. But theres really nothing you can do, they have to live someplace too. So unless you have a law that states these creeps cant live w/in a certain distance of school, play groounds etc... your stuck. I knew of a sexual predator that worked at our local McDonalds. I told 2 managers, took in the info off the predator web site in to the store and gave it to a female supervisor and called McD's 800 number... they didnt do anything. The Store had 2 kiddy playgrounds in it... and numerous underage females employed there also.... I was SOOO mad. Then a "friend" of the creep had to ask me why I was making life difficult on his buddy. HELLO... there are hundreds of jobs a guy can get where hes not working around KIDS! So its not just your neighborhood you need to be carefull of! O yeah... my best friends EX husband went to prison for trying to pick up 14 yr old girls online... he has to register as an offender, but because there was no "victim".. his neighbors dont have to be notified... AND he can still go to events at his sons school. Now if that doesnt just make you sick!

I think the website like the one you saw are great to warn people of the "known" predators in their neighborhoods. I have one warning though. I don't know how the information on that website is listed. I know in Michigan, where I used to live, a site like that only said what level sex crime had been committed. One of my friends spotted someone she knew on the list. He was 18 and had been dating a 14 year old whose parent's had pressed charges against him. I'm not saying he was right to date someone that young, but he wasn't a violent rapist or serial pedophile. Him and the girl are still together 6 years later. He's on the list with the real sickos though, and it doesn't give details so one knows what the criminal really did. So don't always get hysterical til you know details of the crimes.

It's good that you looked them up. Since you've seen their pictures, you can keep an eye out for them. But other than avoiding them, if you don't want to move away, try not to freak out about it too much. Just leave them alone. After all, they've gotta live somewhere. And I read someplace that sex offenders, on average, are much LESS likely to be repeat offenders than are those who commit property crimes. You always hear about the frightening exceptions, though.

around my neighborhood whenever something like that comes up we just pass the world along and send out emails to the neighborhood and surrounding areas. the police can't really do anything about it besides keep the registered so you have to look out for each other. it's such a shame that they get off so easy sometimes. in our neighborhood a pedophile had gotten out of jail and was living here. we were always uncomfortable with the way he acted towards the kids and the way he invited them over to hang out at his house. when we found out his former sentence we were appalled.

Convene a meeting with your neighbors and let them know what you found. (Check the internet to see where and how meetings were was done before) Then meet with the police and alert them as well. (Some people post flyers with names, etc. on telephone polls) Outing the offenders will make it a little more difficult for them to lapse into crime.

If you live 1000 feet near a place where children congregate, call the police to have the offender moved somewhere else.

I would tell the neighbors especially if they have kids. There is nothing wrong about you doing that because its public information (that's how you found out) and that's the whole idea of having that information on the Internet.

You better move to another neihbourhood. This one is not safe. What you could perhaps do is tell your neighbours to go to this particular site, this way you will not be offending anyone nor getting into any legal hassles.
