The question I asked was a genuine one and one which I asked genuine people to answer. I am neither naive or young and have had plenty of experience in my life, which led me to asking people to join with me and other likeminded people to start an organisation to counter the current religious fervour which is gripping the world. Not only that , the British soldiers out fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, don't have enough equipment to carry on fighting as it is, and with the intent of governments to further the war in Iran, what are they going to fight with, the soldiers are being charged the cost of a bullet, how can we expect this to go on.As I said in the original question I only wanted genuine people to answer, no smart Alex's like D99. And who do people think they are that they can judge my dismissal of religion. Am I not entitled to my opinion, this is one of the reasons I despise religion and all it stands for if you don't believe what they believe then you are wrong.

All religions are invented by men who either are trying to satisfy peoples need to believe in some higher power or they seek to gain power over people for whatever reason. My point is that they are all inventions because nobody who exists or ever has existed knows the truth of how the universe came to exists, how or why life came into existence, or what happens if anything when you die. All religious leaders are just putting forward their ideas and you can believe them or not. The danger is that big decisions are made based on these ideas which do not stand the slightest hope of actually being true

do I beleive in a god yes....I mean everything had to start somewhere....at one point there had to be nothing.....but organized religion to me, is just a way of controling people....and has caused more problems in the world that anything else in my opinion...I don't feel that you have to go to church or pray or any of that to beleive in god and I have read the bible take it as a story for morals only and not absolute fact, though I know some parts are based on truth....the religion we have today is so far gone from the true one because people have touched it, it has been changed, retold, just like an old wives tale you grandpa told you on his knee....and what happend over time with those stories, they change...NO...I beleive in a god, but organized religion is just a way to try and keep people under control....thats the way it started anyway, and when things start that way, they can't be pure..

i don't be leave in any thing that has killed so many people in history. Riva ling religions wars from be leafs i think that if there were a god then would he really want millions of people throughout history killing themselves to stay in there gods greater good. it's all about power and greed history has tought us that. what it says in the Bible is that you are entitled to freedom and if that means you speak out against religion then who can stop you, i tell you tho in Israel Lebanon and the old Iraq you'd be stoned to death for your be leafs so another man dies for "god" people created religion because it is something better to go to after death we are all afraid of it but it will happen acceptance would be much better than making false truths.

I don't thinks its religion people believe in, it is God, Jesus, the Spirit, etc. Organized religion is just one means of getting the Word out. Jesus said to believe in Him and if they know Him then they know the Father who sent Him. The person of Christ is way different than some building, group, or earthly entity. So, I guess my answer is no, I don't believe in religion, I believe in Jesus the Christ as my Lord and Savior. And I apologize for any rude responses you've received from anyone claiming to be Christian...that is not a Christ-like attitude.

No. Religion, to me, is a form of giving people false hope, so they keep quiet. Keep the poor and oppressed down by giving them religion, something to believe in. I don't think that religion should exist. People can believe in God without having a bureaucratic organization telling them what to do.

Yes I do. I am a Christian and I do not judge others nor do I dismiss beliefs other than my own as wrong. It is really a small minority of people in the Christian religion that make all the noise.

Unfortunaltly by despising "religion and all it stands for" you basically end up hating everyone and everything.

Why, for example, do you hate Zoroastrianism? Which has such beliefs that everyone is equal regardless of race, gender or religion, there are 200,000 followers of this faith in the world - what ever did they do to you to make you despise all their beliefs.

And the 6 million followers of the Bahá'í Faith who universally abhor violence and discrimiantion - why do you despise this view?

And religious leaders like Ghandi - why do you disagree with their views?

"There are many causes that I am prepared to die for but no causes that I am prepared to kill for." - Ghandi

Personally I prefer to see the good in people and their beliefs. I do not understand how one person can hate another based upon their beliefs. I can't see any rational thinking behind your position, if you like you could e-mail me with details on how you arrived at your current way of thinking.

I have often expressed my views against this war and have protested publically against it.

I agree with you, the deeper you look into religion albeit Catholicism, Hinduism & Buddism the more you turn away from it.
Groucho Marx once said, " I would not belong to any club that would have me", I think that sums it up.

No, I do not.Yes,you are fully entitled to your opinion. One does not have to believe in religion,or anything "holy ", to be a good person. Live your life as you so choose. You have ONE life. Make the most of it!!

If you are saying that we should get british soldiers to fight religion, then we don't need to send them that far. Why not start with the christians, hindus and jews first?
