Barbara Streisand is in the news tonight for shouting the F word at a heckler during her skit with a George Bush impersonator.
However, when she herself was skewered on South Park, she was far less tolerant of the right to express humor through irony.
She condemns someone for speaking out against a tasteless (and long winded) series of jokes about Bush, but remember how she spoke out against a tasteless series of jokes about herself?
But that's Barbara. I can excuse her nonsense, she's an egotistical celebrity. What I want to know is, why did the audience cheer when she told a member of the audience to "shut the f--- up", and later gave some BS line about "tolerance" (wee bit hypocritical) and then said "the role of an artist is to disturb".
That would make the heckler an "artist" by her standards.
I'm not sure, but I think that qualifies as hypocrisy on at least three different levels. And the audience was no better.
Politics aside, do you agree with her or not?

This is not a liberal/conservative thing. It's simply about living by the same standards you expect others to live by. Agreed?

I hate it when celebrities force their political views on a captive audience, as if somehow they know best because they are famous.
I think its hilarious that she lost her cool - now that's what I call entertainment.
Regarding her remark, "An artists role is to disturb" - what a crock or crap! People don't pay $500/ticket to be distubed - they pay to be entertained!
You're right - she is an egotistical hypocrite!

The whole country is profane. "Pi**ed off" and "get your sh*t" are supposed to be acceptable English. There are schoolkids who can't get through a sentence without the F word. Now the word is used again, big deal. Go to almost any school in America, you'll hear a lot more of it. Stupidity is the only king here.
I'm not a Babs fan, but it's nice to know that the Rampaging Right can't outshout everyone on the block.
Celebs have more money and publicity. They don't have political credibility, but why should they have to abide by a special ethic to shut up about politics, just because they're famous?

I vaguely remember something a few months ago on her website. She was blasting the current administration for being less than intelligent, yet her blog entry was full of misspelled words. Common words. I think that if you are going to blast somebody, you had better be well prepared because if you aren't, you look like an idiot. That's how I see her. I mean, sure she can sing, but she just seems to be a bitter hag to me.

Why do entertainers think they need to tell us how and what to think? I don't need guidance. I need to kill some time, and get some kind of enjoyable return on the money I just forked over to them. I don't care if they don't like the polictical party in power. I don't care if they support the Humane Society. I don't care if believe themselves to be appointed Lord High Comander of the Zebulon Galaxy (unless I'm there for a laugh).
People get money, and Fame, and then they get the idea that their values, opinions, and beliefs matter and should be heard by the masses. Believe me, if I wanted to pay someone to tell me what to do, I'd just hand the money to my wife and ask her what now?

Barbra's arrogance has always appauled me.And she has seemed to set her double standard throughout the years. She complains about big business contributions to the republican party however she, among other celebs can make contributions yet I guess they dont consider themselves "big business"
Sometimes I wonder if the audience deemed it acceptable or maybe intimidating to respond to her assinine behavior.I cannot remark on the south park issue as I dont watch it and wasnt aware of her making a stink about it.Bet it was pretty funny tho to see her get her panties in a wad over that.Sorry had to get that in there lol.

It is hypocrisy, please, how many times has this woman supposedly retired? After every concert she retires and when she wants more money she comes out of retirement. She has an ego the size of U.S., she's been in that business too long, it's gone to her head.
As for the fans, when they are there they will agree with anything she says, it's true of fans at any concert. I see the artists having fun with it. People will cheere to anything, "Do you want me to piss on you?" and yth crowd screams Yeah!
It's pretty silly. Lets pay more attention to the real problems in the world.

i can do the two yet I see no ingredient contained in the 1st. the main suitable answer to an insult is the two severe politeness or ignoring. the 1st creates confusion and disbelief, the latter anger. the two hit the ingredient accurately.

It seems that celebrities live in a bubble. Needles, such as the jeering visitor, threaten that bubble.
Audiences just love the F word, I don't think it has anything to do with her skit.

Hecklers suck. They have no right to disrupt a live show.
The crybaby couldn't take it when Streisand mocked his hero, Bush.
