The numbers doen't lie. According to my count, in the last 100 years we've stalemated or lost just about as much as we've won.

Stalemated or Lost:
Korean War
Vietnam
Iraq (heading that way)

Won:
World War 1
World War 2
The Gulf War
Afghanistan (heading that way)

Why do you think this is the case? Have we lost or stalemated just because it wasn't a politically viable option to wage "Total War"? Or are we far more weak than we think we are?

dealing with someone being Independent, do so many people say well you can vote in a Primary. The state of new york has an Indepent primary. And most Independent voters are looking for someone who has their own ideas not a party that they have to vote with.

The Senate passed Sen. Inhofe's amendment to the immigration bill declaring English our official language by a vote of 64-33 on June 6. Sen. Inhofe's amendment also nullified Executive Order 13166, the federal mandate for providing
government-funded services in foreign languages.
the Senate then did an about-face and passed an opposing amendment by Sen. Ken Salazar (CO) by a vote of 58-39 that said English was merely our "common language" (with no meaning in law) and gave full congressional authorization to Executive Order 13166. How does one amendment nullify the other? Even though they contradict each other, both of these amendments are now in the Senate immigration bill. If immigration bills eventually pass both houses of Congress the Democratic Leadership will control the conference committee that reconciles the differences and produces a final bill. Call your senator and demand they support Inhofe and vote against Salazar!

Latin America has many socialist leaders such as Evo Morales, Lula, Ortega, and many others, most famously Hugo Chavez. This swing towards the left is being felt throughout the region. Does the socialist swing have a future in Latin America?

A lady wrote the best letter in the Editorials in
ages!!! It explains
things better than all the baloney you hear on TV.
Her point:
Recently large demonstrations have taken place across
the country protesting the fact that Congress is
finally addressing the issue of illegal immigration.
Certain people are angry that the US might protect its
own borders, might make it harder to sneak into this
country and, once here, to stay indefinitely.
Let me see if I correctly understand the thinking
behind these protests. Let's say I break into your
house. Let's say that when you discover
me in your house, you insist that I leave.
But I say, "I've made all the beds and washed the
dishes and did the laundry and swept the floors. I've
done all the things you don't like to do. I'm
hard-working and honest
(except for when I broke into your house).
According to the protesters:
You are Required to let me stay in your house You are
Required to add me to your family's insurance plan You
are Required to Educate my kids You are required to
Provide other benefits to me & to my family
(my husband will do all of your yard work because he
is also hard-working and honest, except for that
breaking in part).
If you try to call the police or force me out, I will
call my friends who will picket your house carrying
signs that proclaim my RIGHT to be there.
It's only fair, after all, because you have a nicer
house than I do, and I'm just trying to better myself.
I'm a hard-working and honest, person,
(except for well, you know, I did break into your
house)
What a deal it is for me!!! I live in your house,
contributing only a fraction of the cost of my
keep, and there is nothing you can do about it without
being accused of cold, uncaring, selfish, prejudiced,
and bigoted behavior.
Oh yeah, I DEMAND that you to learn
MY LANGUAGE!!! so you can communicate with me.And
don't forget to make sure your forms are in MY
language - I need to understand them...
Why can't people see how ridiculous this is?! Only in
America. If you agree, pass it on ( in English ).
Share it if you see the value of it.
If not blow it off.........
along with your future Social Security funds, and a
lot of other things

"The feeling is that the government must not be questioned in the aftermath of the September 11 attack, which may have been the whole point of the attack."

I am not saying who said it, where it came from or what my own feeling are. Asking this question neither confirms my support or denial as to the validity of this statement.

GREENWOOD, La. — Two shotgun blasts were fired into the home of the town's mayor, who says he had been cursed at before but never physically threatened.

Police stepped up security after the shots were fired early Monday at the home of Ernest Lampkins, who was elected in 2004 as the first black mayor of the small, predominantly white northwest Louisiana town.

An NAACP leader on Tuesday called for an FBI investigation.

I'm a permanent resident of the United States and am Australian-born. I'm in the process of being naturalized here in the US, I decided to do this as Australia now allows it's citizens to hold "dual" citizenship. I also decided to do this so that I can vote and also have the same citizenship as my US-born children.

However, when I spoke to the US Immigration Dept at my civics interview yesterday, they said that the US does NOT recognize dual citizenship. Somehow I completely missed that piece of information and that has me worried.

I'm posting this question to any other Aussies here in the US who have been naturalized as US Citizens. If the United States doesn't acknowledge my Australian citizenship, will that cause complications for me in some way down the line?

I know the pros of becoming a US citizen: voting rights etc. But now I'm wondering whether there are significant disadvantages that I haven't yet researched.

Thanks for any help you can give me with this.
